Extender makes macroed signals too fast to be recognized

I've got a 8910, with extender installed. The readme for the extender has a section titled "fast macros" which says "I reduced both the hold time and the delay time for commands in a macro."
Long story short: keys in macros are not recognized by my DVD player. If I keep pressing the button, it will eventually recognize it, but this isn't a super workable solution. Is there any way to get the 8910 with extender to send "normal" signals?
I've run through the tests described in troubleshooting: "When you press that key, the function is not last, so the duration will be minimum. If that introduces the failure you know it's a duration problem (there are then a variety of approaches to fixing it)."
It does. The readme mentiones "a variety of approaches" but not what they are.
