when I try to download or upload to the remote in IR.exe I get an error message that reads "no data found in signature. This indicates that the interfave isnt wworking properly (unless you have manually cleared the signature bytes, in which case its normal)."
I have a URC-6131n and I might have souldered the chip in wrong. Is that what this error is telling me?

Did you do a manufacturer's reset after installing the EEPROM, to get it to put the signature in the E2 area?

Long press Set, 9, 8, 1
When I say long press, I mean press it until you get the blink, blink.

well I opened it up and found that I cut a few of the circuit connections with a screwdriver probably. Do you know where I can but a remote that doesn't require any soldering? or maybe a popular model number I can probably find or ebay?

I hate the soldering part of this hobby!
These remotes are JP1 and require no soldering
8810 - Backlit 8 device remote
8910 - (it has an LCD)
9910 - (the 8910, with an RF repeater for controlling items in another room, or behind doors)
Right now three are 8910's and 9910's on ebay.
I know that Rob still does some orders, just not as efficiently as he does when his store is open.

Or if you like the size and layout of the 6131 you might like the URC8820 but you'll need a
JP1.2 cable to interface with it. A JP1 cable is correct for the 8810, 8910, 9910. There's an
excellent spreadsheet here that lists many models and their cable and other requirements. You can then enter model numbers into Google Images or go to the OneForAll site to see what they look like.
