hi there, i have made a device however it does not work with the test from program. The device is base on the tommy JP1.2 only device.
I wonder if any of you guys can see anything that seems odd.
Not the greatest soldering job but still. Do all the components look correct sort?
when testing it says error 87 parrameter incorrect and displays no compatible device found in winxp and in vista it just displays no compatible device found device. During testing the light on the remote flashes once then a short pause followed then by two quick flashes.
I can unplug the device after and it still works fine.
Please help me. |

| I believe the Error 87 is from the Windows operating system. Are you using a network drive? If so, try a local drive. Check domain permissions for the user. |

nope not using network drive.
this error is only reported in xp, in vista it purely says compatible device not found.
It also does this if i run the test program when the remote is not connected to the cable. So i thought is wasn't physically connected but the light on the remote flashes. Three times in total. Once, then twice.
I take it the software and these cables work fine with Vista? |

If only the cable is connected to the WinXP PC, IR.exe(IR7.09) should say "Failed to open JP1.x interface". I have no experience with Vista.
What COM port are you using? Maybe there is an issue with the COM port name? Not sure what else to suggest. This error could be before or during the opening of the COM port. Windows doesn't like a parameter it is being given. |

do these capacitors seem the correct sort? they seem rather large compared to other photos of interfaces that i have seen? |

I haven't tried any programs yet still using tester program jp1xtest.exe. Tried both com ports 1 and 2 but i believe the test program tries all ports till it finds correct one anyway. I'm totally stuck. |

| i assume it's not significant that the 2 resistors below the three transistors are not orientated the same way? I have very little knowledge on this so bare with me but do any of the components have to be orientated a certain way round? |

Resistors don't matter but the diodes and transistors do require a specific orientation.

are my diodes correctly orientated ? what will happen to them if they were put in the wrong way round? Also are the capacitors used the correct sort? |

They won't work.

I don't think it matters, but I'm not an electronics expert. Tommy says "Two capacitors, 0.1MFD, any type, any voltage.". Yours certainly qualify as "any type"... are they 0.1MFD?

well i asked the supplier for 0.1MFD capacitors and even they weren't sure. To me they do seem physically too big - but not sure if that matters. - not sure what Tommy meant by "any type, any voltage".
they have S.2A 104K on the side don't know what that means either. |

It means they are 0.1uF 200 volt polyester film capacitors, which should be OK in this application.
"2A" = 200V
"104" = 10 x 10^4 picofarad (0.1uF)
"K" = 10% tolerance

| a OFA URC-7555. Yes i have had a look at the troubleshooting doc. Haven't got a resistor yet though. What do the flashing lights mean? they occur once, then twice. |
