My first try at extender on an URC 8011 and a 6012. Have 8 devices to control.

Using LKP on M1 to turn all ON (phantom 1) and all OFF (phantom 2)
This LKP worked on both 8011 and 6012.

The 6012 is short of 2 Device buttons: CD and AUX.
Trying to use LKP on the DVD button to set mode to DVD with short press and CD with long press.
The short press will select DVD and all its functions.
The long press will not select CD, it stays in DVD mode

My LKP is
Device DVD
Key DVD
Short press shift-DVD (I understand the shift if to avoid trouble)
Long press phantom 3

Macro is phantom 3 = CD
CD = P_CD, M_CD, C_CD, T_CD, O_CD, V_RCVR

I have also tried
phantom 3 = P_CD, M_CD, C_CD, T_CD, O_CD, V_RCVR
and
Short press DVD instead of shift DVD

When I short or long press the DVD button it stay controlling the DVD. Cannot change to control the CD.
To keep the mode selections with DEVICE buttons only is more user friendly.
I am short on memory and try not to use too many special protocols, having enough trouble learning just one.
Is my idea a bad one?

It should work the FIRST way you did it, but upload your IR file (AND POST A LINK TO IT HERE) and someone will take a look.

If you setup the macro to switch to CD on a normal key?

It looks like what you've setup should be working but something obviously isn't.

Here is the IR file uploaded to the Diagnostic area

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=5316

If I messed up the link please let me know.

In the device list I have
a BASE DVD as DVD (1st desired device on the DVD button)
a Panasonic DVD as CD (2nd desired device on the DVD button)

Similar setup for the Sat key to select an HD STD (short press) and an AV selector (long press)

In my original post I left out these details just to concentrate on the idea of using LKP on 1 device button to select 2 different devices

Brilliant, worked like a charm.
Although I don't quite understand the logic of
Using X-shift phantom for the short press.
Calling up the key-sets for the 1st (short press) device within this X-shift phantom key.
Calling the phantom key from the 1s device's key in the Macro.

What does the X-shift achieve? The question of for my education. It is great that it works and many thanks to such quick responses. Shows the JP1 is one of the most helpful and informative community.

X-shift doesn't mean anything special. I could just as well have used any key. I just used it to leave the other phantoms and shift-phantoms free for other uses.

The main thing is the sequence of events.
- Press DVD key
- Call LKP macro (happens to be X-shift phantom1)
- Run short or long macro
- Long macro calls other device key macro
End

No shift cloaking to worry about. No macros apparently calling themselves. It looked to me like the original DVD key was calling both its device macro and the LKP macro at the same time, but only the device macro ran.

Mine is just one of many possible solutions, and probably not the most efficient. But it's easy for me to follow. Hope it makes sense.
