I have a RadioShack 21-2117 (I think) remote control and I'm reading about extenders and such. It talks about VPT, TPT, "Home Theater Mode", etc, etc.

Where can I find out about these features and what they do?

Ah a person that has the same issues as I had! Very Happy You can find out about those features in the owners manual of your remote.

VPT = Volume Punch Through. This allows your volume to control your TV or Receiver, while the rest of the buttons are controlling another device, like the cable box.

TPT = Transport Punch Through. Transport buttons are the buttons that control Record/Stop/Pause/FastForward/Rewind.

Some Remotes have a HomeTheater button that switches the volume controlls by one device/ the numbers control another device/ the transport keys control another device......

I struggled really hard trying to understand those common acronyms.

"Home Theater" mode in the 15-2116 is called "My System".

I'd never heard of the TPT acronym either.

With most extenders you can tailor VPT, TPT or any other TLA (three letter acronym) for each button by setting up macros on the device keys. You can then, for instance, have VPT on the TV whether you are in TV, SAT or Cable mode but have another key for an audio device re-allocate the volume keys once its device button is pressed, but - if you want - still leave the transport keys set to your DVD player. You basically decide what you want the various groups of buttons - Volume, Pip, Transport, Channel, Other - to do when you are in a given device mode.
