Trying to load/use the JP1 IR (ver 7.03) on a Dell laptop so I can take it to friends house and tinker as needed there.
Can't get system to recognize the downloaded USB driver. When I plug in the remote/USB cable it says device not recognized. Then after opening up "properties" and "drivers" and when I point it to where I downloaded the USBIODS.INF and SYS files it says "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware".
USB remains grayed out on the IR interface tab.
Tried just copying the files into Windows/INF and Windows/System32/Driver files but no help.
What to do. Laptop does not have a parallel port to use my old cable with.

SBM911, besides rebooting, check if you download the latest USB drivers mentioned here

After the 4th or so reboot the driver was finally recognized and loaded and the IR program confirmed the driver was current, the USB input selection un-grayed.
However, later when I took the laptop to my friends house IR and the laptop refused to recognize the "new device" (the plugged in remote) but troubleshooting/properties confirmed the driver was current.
I never have this problem with my desk top and old parallel cable.
Is the USB driver/cable/laptop combination so fragile as to make it work sometimes and not others when plugging in the remote (a 15-2117)? Am I doing something wrong? |

I use the USB driver on XP. I haven't had any trouble except the time I plugged my cable into a different USB port. The usb driver doesn't like it if you plug it into a different USB port. Always go for the same USB port, once you've got it working. |

I just wanted to resurrect this thread briefly because I had a computer which refused to recognise the USB driver as well (XP Pro). I hacked on the INF file to add the following line in the version section and it worked:
Code: |
ClassGuid = {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}
|
I hope this helps someone else because I was unable to find any other solutions to this problem despite lots of searching.
Full Inf file follows:
Code: |
