DVD/ VCR combo, which device to use?

I am doing a Keymap-Master (908) upgrade for a Califone DVD/ VCR combo. It struck me that I don't know whether to assign this to the DVD or to the VCR? My main thought would be to do the DVD. Any ideas how I should proceed. Also a simple question. I do not know if it is proper for me to just "make up" a setup code. I know that I should start with 1xxx, but will it conflict with something if I get it close to an existing code in the remotes' memory?
This Califone unit is a specialized unit that we sell to Schools and Hospitals.

Depending on the remote, DVD may have more buttons "native" to that mode than VCR (i.e. that will not get assigned as KeyMoves) but why do a combo? It might be easier for the end-user if you had the DVD portion on DVD and the VCR portion on VCR. Make the setup code(s) anything that takes your fancy so long as they make sense to you.

Do the VCR and DVD functions use different codes, if so you should just create seperate upgrades for each virtual device. If they share codes, you should just pick one, it really doesn't matter.

As for the code number that you select, that's also entirely up to you. Even if you just happen to pick a code number that matches a built in code, it doesn't matter (as long as you're not using the built in code).

As we probably don't already have a file for this device, can you be sure to load your KM file into the file section when it's ready please.

Do you already have a remote for the units that you sell? If you ever need more remotes for them, drop me a line.

On my combo, I use the same code for both VCR and DVD. It won't hurt a thing. Everything works in either mode, and I don't have to remember which one to pick. Your customers won't have to remember either.
