have you tried 0573, 0664, or 0665?
if these dont work, a learning remote and a jp1 cable could become your best friend.
in the market section of this forum, rob has one 8811 learning remote and JP1 cables for sale.
what remote do you currently have? do you have the original remote that came with the hitachi?
Good Luck,

Steve,
He also
posted this over in the OFA forum at RC.
He's using a 15-2116 remote. He didn't say whether he has a JP1 cable.
Lex,
If you were able to get some buttons learned, take a look at the learned signals tab in IR.exe and see what protocol and device codes they use, then post that info back here.

I see from your
post over at RemoteCentral that you have a 2116 and already tried learning some functions with limited success.
Do you have a JP1 cable and the necessary JP1 software (IR, KM, etc) yet? If not, you should look into it as it's doubtful you'll find a built-in code to fully control the Hitachi. With a cable and IR, you'll be able to see how the signals decode so that you can use that info to build your own upgrade using KM (or RM).

Hi All,
Sorry for the confusion. Yes I have a JP1 and yes I have all the software.
I tried learning some of the keys but I get conflicting protocols. Somekeys I get a NEC1 somekeys I get something else. Some keys I get no protocol at all. Plus I do not have the descreet codes.
Any suggestions?
I am surprised that there was no one that had a Hitachi DVD/VCR.

Learn all the keys from the remote. Post your IR file to the diagnostics folder. If all the keys wont fit, learn as many as you can and post 2 or 3 IR.txt files. Leave a note here in this string as to what buttons do what functions, and someone will sort it out and tell you what to do next.
If it is really as off the wall and bizarre as you claim, I bet we might see a post from the brilliant and famous John S Fine.

Also, try the Play command from Off. Many DVD's will turn On only. If so. a macro for Play|Stop=On and Play|Power Toggle =Off. Since it is a combo, you might try the Play command in both modes.
Inconsistent learning is usually either technique or bad batteries in the OEM and/or OFA remote. Make sure that you press the key to be learned TO first, get the rapidly flashing led, then hold down the key on the OEM remote untill you get the double blink on the OFA remote. Placing the remotes about an inch away from each other on a table works best for me.

Most Hitachi devices use NEC1 protocol. Hitachi VCRs normally use NEC1 devices 96 and 97 (There is a second unit that can be selected somehow and then they use subdevices 158 with device 96 and subdevice 159 with device 97).
Hitachi DVDs normally use device 128, subdevice 35. But some use Pioneer protocol instead.
If you get a few extra protocols decoded on signals that have NEC1 decodes, those are probably flaws in my decoder. Signals with no decode are harder to understand. NEC1 is a pretty robust protocol. Follow the suggestions in above answers (post file for diagnosis, try new batteries, etc).
For discrete codes, post device/subdevice numbers and some OBCs of normal signals and that will help us help you find discretes if any exist.
