URC-7070 Upgrade for Sony VPL-HS10 Failure! HELP!

I have been all over this forum and remote central to attempt to replace the RM-PJHS10 projector remote that I CRACKED PCB IN HALF on my Sony VPL-HS10.

I started with purchasing a Sony RM-VL600.
No matching codes, and nothing to learn from! Thanks Sony.

Then I found this great site from a link at Projector Central.

Now I dug in my junk drawer and came up with a URC-7070 Pro Producer 7 remote.

I then cut the end off an old printer cable, and nipped the first 6 pins off an old IDE cable and about 20 minutes later I have a working JP1 interface.

Now, I've got something to work with :)

So my goal now is to program this old beast with Macro commands to teach the RM-VL600 a few tricks and to become the old projector remote.

I have run decodeCCF on the Pronto file for my projector at RC:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4551

There is a partial set of codes in the d/l section here for a different remote at:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1270

and

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1408

Now I also compared this with the Sony Charts here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_proj.htm

I then came up with a FULL set of commands including ones not even on the original remote between all of them that I posted Here:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4549

I created this with RM 1.77.

If you can solve my problem, this post should be moved to the other section, as it is MUCH more complete than the two that are there.

I ran IR v7.0 and read/saved to remote successfully.

I then did a MFR Reset:
- Press and hold SETUP (might be labelled SET, MAGIC or P), 2 flashes
- Type 981, 4 flashes

Then a D/L from Remote.

Then I C/P the Upgrade protocol to IR:
*****************
Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 27 (6805-C9) Sony Combo (12/15/20) (RM v1.77)
0A 19 42 20 12 A8 D0 08 30 05 07 01 B5 01 B5 20

AE 01 20 02 BF 74 BF 59 AD 04 AD 02 12 7C CC 01
83
End
******************

And then I C/P the Device upgrade code:

******************
Upgrade code 0 = 17 E1 (TV/2017) Sony VPLHS10 & 20 (RM v1.77)

Next, I went to the General tab and set TV for device 2017.

Here is the IR file I created:

https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=4550

In this IR file I also added the codes for my Tivo.

It all appeared to go correctly, but I CANNOT get a single button on the remote to work.

Hit TV and then ALL buttons programmed. Nothing!

Hit Cable, and this is mapped to Tivo, Nothing!

I'm not one to ask for help unless I did my homework.

Please tell me where I lost it.

Thanks,
Scanman1

I noticed that you entered "26" as a sub-device in the Setup sheet in RM, which isn't needed as none of your codes have 26 as a sub-device (26 is only a main device code here), but this doesn't really matter as you didn't use that sub-device in the functions sheet, so your upgrade should have worked.

Are you sure your remote actually works? Have you tried programming any of the built in codes to a device button to see if they work (assuming you have devices that you can test them on). Alternatively, do you have a digital camera? If you, take a look at the URC-7070's IR-LED through the viewfinder while you are pressing a button on the remote to see if the IR-LEDs are working.

I do have an IR reciever attached to my PC.

I have a MIT MyHD card (HDTV OTA Capture card)

This card has a serial IR reliever.

The Software allows me to "capture" IR signals from any remote and be programmed via software called MyIrc.

It will "learn" any I.R. command.

Example:

Tivo, "Tivo" button from original remote:

Received Data "0xF9023085"

An I am able to select other devices and receive codes with this learning IR receiver on the PC from the 7070, so I'd have to say it is Physically working.

Unfortunately, when I select the devices I have programmed, I get the green LED blip, but no IR is being transmitted with the code I have programmed into it!

I also have ANOTHER IR receiver/Transmitter (USB) attached to my PC.

Vision Plus 1020 from Twinhan PCI Satellite Receiver Card

My whole goal is to blast learning codes to my RM-VL600.

I'll be most happy any way it can be done. I even researched the Idea of a simple WinLirc circuit.

I have Super glued the two pieces of the origional remote PCB together and scraped the 35+ traces on both sides of the break to clean copper.
Some of them are so small and close together that I may have to resort to running small wire wrap wires at points on the PCB beyond both sides of the break.

I have soldered the main IR transmit & ground and I have one button working that is below the break.

Mabe I can just solder a few wire wrap wires and short points to blast the codes at the resistor array below the board crack.

Just charting this out could be a nightmare....

I'm a Bulldog, and I can't be stopped, but I GREATLY appreciate an easier way to resolve this problem!

This is almost too much, and I have spent $500 in time to avoid paying $70 for a remote I will not need soon, as my Projector has 7 bulbs, and 20,000 hours on it. yep, goto AVS forum for this story.

I'm loosing it.

HELP!!!

I don't think I can be much more help with the URC-7070 remote. It's a very old remote that uses a processor that we don't se much around here, so support for it is limited.

Maybe you should pick yourself up a good JP1 remote to use instead of the Sony. I can sell you a URC-8910 for $29 shipped if you want.

Maybe there is something wrong with the protocol upgrade? Can you try using Sony 12/15(Protocol ID 00CA) as that seems to be built into this remote? You may have to get your IR Transmitter on the PC to emit the correct signals for you to train the Sony remote.

I'm throwing the 7070 in the trash, returning the Sony remote and buying a URC-9910 from The Robman.

I've invested too much time in learning the JP1 utilities and building the cable.
I might as well go all the way.

I received the remote today, and 5 minutes after I ripped the box open, I had it programmed and running my Projector, Tivo and Receiver.

Seems my files were good and that old 7070 was junk.

Now I'll have to get some macros going.

Be warned Mr. Scanman, this JP1 stuff can be addictive, and judging by how quick you got the URC-8910 up and running, it may already be too late for you! :P
