JP1 Remotes

I just installed the extender (2) for the first time partly because I read that I can change what displays on the LCD for a device. I put my Tivo on the AUX key and was able to change the LCD to display "VCR" just using KeymapMaster and IR. I would like to change it to read "TIVO". I interpreted what I read that I can do that but I can't figure it out. I'm still really green when it comes to JP1. So, will the extender allow me to do that? Or am I just limited to what's stored in the remote?

Thanks and apologies if this question has already been addressed. I did a search but I might have used the wrong criteria.

Read the file "CustomModeName.txt" that comes bundled with extender_2 for your remote. It will make it easy for you.

Basically, the extender comes with a special protocol to set the LCD.

You invoke the special protocol by defining a keymove for a placeholder device which uses the special protocol. The hex data for the keymove defines what the LCD screen should display.

You can do 5 chars on line1 and 4 chars on line2 of the LCD.

Hey .. what do you know? The information I needed was right there in the manual. I just may have to open the books that come with devices I buy to see what I can uncover. This is like a whole new beginning.

But I have a whole new problem now. Before Ext2, I had a macro for FFWD to send 2 FFWDs. After Ext2 it just sends continuous FFWDs and I have to take out the batteries to stop it. I read .. yes, I said "I read" the .txt files that came with the extender and tried what I deciphered from them (i.e. creating a macro on a phantom key then adding a key move using the hex value for that phantom key .. and I assume the MISC/1103 protocol). That didn't work for me. If I just delete and recreate the macro like I did initially, it just sends continuously. All I want is FFWD to send FFWD;FFWD. How do I do this now?

stick in a hex code for a key that does not have any function, keymove, or macro on it, like shift-move, in between the two ffwards.

upload your IR.exe to diagnostics folder if that fails and someone will look at it.

the extenders drastically reduce the delay between keys in macros and therefore you may have to add a delay. also read the readme about adding a short, medium, and long delay. there is a delay protocol also.

what is probably happening is your IR receiver on the device is not ready to accept the second ffward as it is too close to the first one.

if there are other things going on in the macro, like turning a different device off or on or something, try putting that in between the two ffwards.

Okay .. I uploaded 2116 with Ext2-TEST.txt in the diagnosis area. I just don't get it. Before uploading, I reverted it back to how the macro was set up before Ext2.

I added some delay in your macro, try it now, I hope it works. Smile

Right-Click Here and pick the "Save Target As.." option.

Sorry to report that it still sends continuous FFWDs. Without Ext2, the macro works fine. It definitely has something to do with the extender. But what?

In the extender, FFWD;FFWD will just keep calling itself, hence the endless loop. Create a key move on Shift-FFWD that is the FFWD command. Then the macro on the FFWD key would be Shift-FFWD;Shift-FFWD.

couldnt you also just use shift-cloaking and not create a keymove on shift-fwrd with fward on it? my concern is that this will also wind up calling itself.
