JP1 Remotes

Hello,

I have a very old but in great shape Mitsubishi VS-4504R that was given to me by my neighbor. The remote wouldn't work so I got a replacement. It will do everything a remote is suppose to do...only problem is, I want to go into the inputs so i can get my kids Wii to work and it asks for a (4) digit code. I have looked everywhere and tried all sorts of combinations....Any help?

Please, I'm desperate and my kids are driving me sane 8)

The original remote temporarily unlocks the parental code so a new code can be entered by pressing the "9" and "QV" simultaneously. I think QV is the previous channel command. I don't know if a universal remote control can generate the necessary command however (most remotes generate nothing when two buttons are pressed simultaneously). Mitsubishi seems to have used this same unlock command for all of their sets over a 20 year period.

I don't know if I have any Mitsubishi OEM remotes at my shop but I might. If I do I will try to learn the unlock code so you can execute it either by entering an "Advanced Code" (EFC) or by creating a custom upgrade for the Mits TV. It's probably going to be necessary for someone else to learn the command from an OEM Mitsbushi remote if I don't have one.

Is the Mitsubishi VS-4504R a TV?

Elbrith, a short term workaround might be to connect the Wii (assuming that you don't have an RF modulator for it) would be to connect it to a VCR and use that RF (channel 3) output to send to the TV. The TV may have two antenna inputs so you wouldn't have to change the regular antenna/cable connection.

Rob, the Mits is a good size rear projection TV. They apparently enabled their remotes to generate an output when multiple buttons were pressed simultaneously, in this case, the digit "9" and the previous channel button "QV" (Quick View) when pressed together produce a temporary unlock command for the parental control feature. If the TV's internal memory battery fails, then every power outage resets the V chip codes. It defaults to "On" rather than "Off" so the little tykes can't beat the V chip by unplugging the set.

Thanks Steve. Did you find any OEM remotes in your shop? Do modern Mits remotes do the same thing? If so, we could try capturing the signals from an instore remote at Best Buy or somewhere like that.

Is the replacement remote that you bought a Mits OEM remote or a universal remote? If it's an OEM remote, did you try the QV+9 trick?

It's a replacement remote and not a learning one at that. I tried the VCR and it works......

I don't know what "replacement" means, is it a replacement that was made by Mitsubishi and therefore might do the QV+9 function, or is it a universal remote made by some other company? Do you see what I'm asking? I know that you bought it to replace your old remote, so saying "replacement" doesn't answer my question. Also, what's wrong with your original remote?

I forgot that I had an old Mits learning remote in the living room and for that specific key combo it does generate an output.
Mitsubishi protocol. Device 71. OBC 143. EFC 066

It generates that code even though the remote is programmed to control a Sony TV.
Elbrith might have to get a One For All Universal remote to generate the command.

I just combined all the codes from the other US models, and added this code also, to come up with a Mitsubishi TV master file...

Hello again,

I wanted to let you guys now that the "replacement remote" was actually from a dealer that sells original remotes. I got my package and in it was a paper stating that my original remote wasn't in production anymore and the one I have is its equivilant. I worked everything except the (QV9) although when I was in (input 1/2) I could enter numbers for the (4) digit code. Strange, but at least going through the VCR works....thanks again guys and my kids really appreciate the info as well.

I don't know how much you understand about the info that was posted earlier, but Steve found the QV9 code. In order for you to use this code you would need a "One For All" universal remote control. It doesn't need to be a JP1 compatible model, but it does need to be one that supports the "keymover" function.

What you would do is program the TV/0150 setup code to the TV device button (a few remotes have TV/0108 instead of TV/0150). Then you would program the advanced code (EFC) 066 to any spare button and then this spare button will send the QV9 signal.

If you don't need to use the QV9 function on a regular basis, you could simply press and release the SETUP button, then type 066, and it would have the same effect.

The way the QV+9 works is to select the input and when it asks for a 4 digit code, press the QV and 9 simultaneously instead. It should go to a screen that allows you to set a new parental code. You can then use your new code when you select the inputs. (I'd pick 1-1-1-1 myself) At least that is my understanding of the procedure.

I've tested a couple of Mitsubishi remotes and all of them send the QV+9 code so I would have thought that any Mitsubishi remote should generate the needed command.
