1. Device: sony dvp-cx777
2. Type of device: DVD mega changer
3. Year: 2005?
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Slingbox
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes and i have downloaded a pcf file, but do not know how to use it.
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? n/a

I have a slingbox pro and three sony mega disc changers model dvp-cx777es. I need codes to control all three. The sony dvp-cx777 has a switch on the back which changes the remote codes. I have adequate control of changers 1 and 3 but almost no control of changer 2. I need the codes for changer 2. But if i had the codes for all three i might be able to combine them into one remote control using the external function in remote master. but i do not know if it will work. I believe that slingbox uses an IR Blaster of 2.0. Remote master instructions state that external functions requires IR 3.12 or better. I am not sure if they are talking about the same thing.

I have downloaded Sony_DVP-CX985V.txt and used remote master to convert it into a .bin file. It had limited control of changer 1. I was hoping that some one with more knowledge than me could explain how to modify the file to control changers 2 and 3. If that fails i will need to purchase a JP1 remote and interface wire.

here are the addresses of two pronto files i have found.

We don't need the Pronto files as we already have several JP1 files, like this one...

I'm sure we have the data here to let you create a Slingbox file for any one of those (three files for all three). But I doubt a Slingbox can combine those to control all three together as one device, which I think is wehat you're saying.

It won't. The Slingbox doesn't include the common feature used to support external functions.

Not those are talking about two totally unrelated things. None of that has anything to do with the reason external functions won't work with a Slingbox.

I didn't check that file nor follow the link Rob gave. I expect all the info you need to change the file for 2 and 3 is there and/or at:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/

If Rob's answer didn't help I'll try to find time tomorrow to give more details.

To do what? Don't you want your slingbox to control the devices? It would be easier to make a JP1 remote control them, but that isn't really a step toward making the Slingbox control them. Some people need a JP1 learning remote to capture information for a Slingbox file, but that isn't the case here.

Thank you so much for your fast response and your advice. I have looked at the page of Sony Codes several times already. but when you sent me back to it, reviewed it with remote master comands screen next to it and compared what info goes where. I am slow with this so please bear with me. I figured out that all 3 changers are protocol sony 12/15/20. all are sony20 devices. and all are device 26. But each has a 2 different subdevices. The original file uses subdevices 73 and 98. I tested subdevices 34, 250, 11, and 3. With the file as it is, i could possibly control 2 dvd changers completely. I tested it with by adding changer 2 power commands to changer 1 and uploaded the .bin file to slingbox and it worked. I was able to power on 2 changers. If only this protocol could be modified to support 6 subdevices instead of just 4.... ok here is where things get wierd. I modified protocol.ini file with a new modified version of the sony 12/15/20 protocol. I changed it so that it allows 6 subdevices. At first they just showed up on the setup screen in remote master, but then i changed the protocol further and now they show up on the drop downs in the command screen. Here is where i need help. I have no idea how to CORRECTLY change the protocol.ini file. I just got this far by extrapolating the patterns that i saw in the device parameters, completely ingnorant of if I did it correctly. I am not sure but i think that the Hex codes are being calcuated wrong on the command screen. Also in the drop downs of the subdevice in the commands screen in remotemaster it will not let me chose 3 or 11 even though they are in the drop down list. Please help me modify my new protocol to support 6 subdevices. Here is a copy of the new protocol

PID=00 29
AlternatePID=012,none

ImportCmdTranslator=SonyComboImporter()
CmdParmInit=PickInitializer(2,,n0,n1,n2,n3,n4,n5)
Notes=This combo protocol allows you to combine as many Sony12 and \
Sony15 codes as you like with up to 4 Sony20 codes. You enter the 4 Sony20 sub-device \
numbers on the Setup panel.\n\n\
On the Functions panel, you enter the \
codes for the functions in OBC format as usual. Then you select the desired \
protocol for the function. Next enter the desired device number. If you enter a \
device number greater than 31, the protocol will be changed to Sony15, as it is the \
only one that supports values greater than 31. For Sony12 and Sony15, the Sub-device column \
must have the value "none". For Sony20 functions, select the desired sub-device number.

I have succeeded at making a file that incorperates the main subdevices of 3 mega changers and one secondary subdevice using the original sony12/15/20 protocol. This gave complete control of one and partial control of 2 other megachangers in one remote. But i would love to succesfully modify this protocol to alow 6 subdevices to be incoperated into one remote. I will upload the file that i have created and the favorites bar that has all of the commands on it. Please assist further if you can. Thank you for your guidance.

Creating a new protocols.ini entry is the 2nd step that needs to be done, the 1st step is to write a new executor. If I get a chance I will try and write one for you.
