Kameleon general question

Post by Davidgm2000 »

Hello All,

I have a smimple question about the Kameleon that I would like to know before I purchase one. Can you change the button labels? I have a Panasonic DVD recorder that has several buttons that are labeled uniquely, such as Direct Navigator, Sub menu, etc.. I was wondering if those buttons would show up with the correct name if Iget the Kameleon? Or is there a better option? I have used jp1 in the past with a 2104 RS remote. Thanks!

No, the buttons on the Kameleons are fixed. Even though some buttons appear to change labels in different modes, it's really just because different parts of the button image are illuminated at different times.

Typically what we do in the JP1 world is look at the buttons that are available on the remote being programmed, that haven't already been programmed with the logical functions to see which could be used for those more uniquely named functions. Sometimes the choice will be based on a partial name match, sometimes it will be based on the physical position of the button, basically it's whatever you can remember when it comes time to using the remote. Often the "learning" or "macro" buttons get used for these functions.

If you don't think you can sell such an idea to the other family members, maybe you should consider a non-JP1 remote like the MX-500, which lets you label certain buttons on an LCD screen.

Rob,

Thanks for the reply! That was what I suspected, but wasn't sure. Thanks again for your help!
