Hi,
Not very technical in fact I just heard about JP1 for the 1st time today.
I understand that I get a cable download some codes and upload that to my remote.
A few questions:
1. Where can I get the cable? Cost?
2. What software is required (is there a cost)?
3. Is there a code(s) for the Akai PDP4273M? Where do I get it?
After reviewing the information in the beginners section it does not seem overly straightforward.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't keep up with various vendors starting and stopping availability of the cables. See this thread. I think the second sticky post there is your best bet.len100 wrote: 1. Where can I get the cable? Cost?

No cost. See the first post I linked above.len100 wrote:2. What software is required (is there a cost)?
That exact model is in the collection of TV upgrade files atlen100 wrote:3. Is there a code(s) for the Akai PDP4273M? Where do I get it?

Usually you don't need an exact match of the model name. But since that's there it should be easy.
I checked the remote chart for "Atlas 5", since I don't remember details of less common models. It lists an "Atlas PVR 5", which seems to be an ordinary JP1 remote. I expect that is the one you mean. It also lists an "Atlas DVR 5 Day" which it says is JP1.3 (different cable and less mature software support).

With regular retail remotes, the model number tells us everything we need to know about the remote, as UEI doesn't change processors in a remote while keeping the model number the same. However, things aren't so simple with their OEM and cable remotes (like the Atlas 5). We have seen JP1, JP1.2 and JP1.3 versions of this remote and the only way to tell them apart AFAIK is to see what's printed next to the 6-pin connector. If it says JP1.2 or JP1.3 you would need a JP1.2 (or JP1.x) cable to program the remote using JP1. If it just says "JP1" you would need a regular JP1 cable (like the "Simple" parallel or "USB" cables).
