Can't use remote when plugged in JP1 Cable

I have the OFA8910 remote and using the extender. I have been programming my remote with help from this website for about 3 weeks. I pretty much have it programmed the way I want it right now. I have a new problem with it though. It seems to have happened after I changed the batteries. Previously when my remote was plugged into the jp1 cable I was able to press buttons and watch the remote respond. Now when I press any button while the jp1 cable is plugged in I get that reset screen look(all the digits and icons displayed). It doesn't go away while still plugged in. I am able to upload the new codes from IR ok, but I can't initiate the extender (with the TV, Power button press) until after I disconnet the cable. It still works fine except for that problem. Does anybody have any idea why it would start doing this now?

That's a common problem and does depend on the battery voltage.
In the JP1 cable, one pin from the printer port is used to control a reset signal inside the remote that must be pulled low while reading or writing the eeprom and must not be pulled low for the remote to be used normally.
Unfortunately, the remote might interpret both the high and low levels from the printer port as low. So the remote sees that signal pulled low as long as the cable is connected.
There isn't much you can do about it. If you really want to operate the remote while connected to the PC you can experiment with other batteries to find the battery voltage at which that works. But that doesn't sound worth it.
Just disconnect the cable as soon as you are done with upload or download.

Thanks for the fast reply johnsfine. I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with the remote. Since it still works fine I will try different batteries when these ones wear out.
