JP1 Remotes

I'm a complete newbie and I'm a little unsure where to start. I think I'm reading around in circles now.

I have a Millenium 4 remote from the cable company, a Samsung LNS4092D TV, and a JVC RX8010VBK HT receiver amongst other equipment.

I've got remote master installed and running and IR is operational with my remote.

Most everything works the way I want it to except the volume control for the TV requires the button to be pressed repeatedly instead of just holding it down. The volume keys for the amp seem to work properly with a constant press.

In attempts to remedy this, I did a factory reset on the remote, then programmed the device keys to suit my components, did some key moves to allow selection of receiver input options, and then added upgrades for the TV (LNS4051 was the closest I could find instead of LNS9092), and the receiver.

To be honest, it looks like the upgrade for the receiver has taken care of the keymoves I put in, and the keymoves that are there in the IR file, I don't recognize. I assume they were part of the upgrade.

I know exactly what the problem is. Whatever code you are using for the TV must be using the NECx1 protocol whereas Samsung almost always uses the NECx2 protocol. The symptom of using "1" when you should be using "2" is that the buttons don't repeat properly. (I had this exact same problem with my Samsung VCR and the official VCR/0240 setup code).

You will probably need to build an upgrade to replace the setup code that you are using, or chances are that there is an upgrade in the file section that you can use.

I went back to look at the upgrade file and RM brings it up showing it using the Necx2 protocol.

I hadn't looked at your IR file before as the problem seemed obvious, but your last reply made it not clear whether you were using a built in setup code or an upgrade, so I took a look.

You have TV/0060 programmed to the TV button. As expected, this setup code uses the NECx1 protocol (with a device code of 7), so my previous post was accurate as to why your buttons are not repeating.

I see that you have two upgrades loaded, one of which is TV/1060 and this uses the NECx2 protocol. Assuming that this upgrade is properly formatted for the Mil4, if you were to assign this upgrade to the TV device button, I would expect that the buttons would repeat properly.

OK, I think I get it.

I rebuilt the file at home yesterday by starting with my base IR file and adding the TV upgrade.

I now fully understand the significance of assigning the upgrade to a device.

The thing you need to remember is that when you add an upgrade to the remote, it is basically the same as adding one more setup code to the list of setup codes in the manual, but just like those other setup codes, you need to actually assign them to a device button in order to use them.
