Did my JP 1.2 cable go bad?

I was merrily using my JP 1.2 cable to upload and download some stuff a few days ago with no problem, but since then every time I try to use it I get a "Failed to connect to JP 1.2 interface" error. I do see the LED on the remote flash a couple times, but that is the only outward indication that anything is happening. I've tried both with a direct serial connection and using the USB->Serial cable, on a couple different computers. I didn't do anything physical to the cable (it was just sitting there, plugged into a computer)... could one of the components have burned out or something? I don't really know much about the electronics of the system; I just bought the parts and followed the directions when building my JP 1.2 only cable.

Thanks!

Try shutting down IR and starting it up again. I've found that if I use the parallel interface, when I switch back to the JP1.2 serial interface it no longer works.

Unfortunately I've tried on several different computers, with different OSes, and I get the same error everywhere... so it seems like either the cable or the remote has a problem, but I don't know what could have failed, or any additional diagnostics to do. I've tried the tester program, and it just says it couldn't make the connection either.

If you just have one JP1.2 remote to test with, it could be the remote also, so try doing a 981 reset on the remote. I've had very sporadic results with JP1.2 on my PCs.
