DBS advanced code for JVC receiver doesn't work.

I have a SHAW cable box remote MKT476A-A00 and a JVC home theatre receiver RX8010VBK. I've programmed the AUDIO device button of the remote with the receiver device code 0074. Most basic functions, power, volume etc work but I need to be able to select the input source.

I've added some advanced functions for selecting the input source, referencing http://www.hifi-remote.com/codes2/amp_0074.shtml as this is the closest to my model receiver I can find.

The advanced codes all seem to work except the one I need which is to select the cable box via DBS which is stated as code 203.

Any hints as to whether this is in fact the correct code or ??? I can program almost any of the other codes into the same button (the 2 button) and they work fine. I'm doing this via the 994 method, ie

Press the device key
Press and hold SETUP (wait for two blinks)
Enter 9-9-4 (wait for two blinks)
Press SETUP (pess it long enough to see led blink)
Enter the 3 digit code (in this case 203)
Press the button to be assigned (in this case the 2 button)

Try 117 for the advanced code.
Even if you don't use JP1 cable, you might want to look at this file, which is the upgrade file for your exact model:

I found a picture of the Shaw remote online. This remote is a "Millenium 4" remote, so you do have the option of programming it using JP1 if you like.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try the code 117 when I get home today.

Regarding the JP1 cable, I've spent most of the weekend trying to get it to work and having not much luck. I haven't posted yet because I've not finished the entire testing section for the home built cable, although I've gone through the cable end to end with an multimeter and painted pin 1 white to identify it to verify my wiring. For the life of me can't find any mistakes. I'm using a combination of resistors adding up to 1080 ohms so that could possibly be the problem however, as the original cable used 10K resistors, I really doubt it. The diode is a 1N4148(from memory) just like specified in the diagram and it tests closed circuit in one direction and about .6volts in the other. This seems correct to me. I've got pins 1 and 2 at the 6 pin connector shorted together. I have the diode between pins 2 and 11 of the AMP connector with the diode line toward the 2 pin (from memory). I have verified all of the connections end to end several times.

Using IR.EXE.
When I unplug the cable from the remote I get a no response from remote error message. When I connect the cable to the remote I get a no response from interface error. I've verified that pin25 has about 1 ohm resistance to ground on the case. I've tried the remote with no batteries, old batteries, and new batteries. When I plug the cable in the LED doesn't blink. Should it? I've set the parallel port to 378 and verified this in device manager in windows XP. I've got the delay set to 1600 and tried it at 0, 250,750 with no change.

Any hints?

Can you verify that you have shorted pins 1 and 2 together, and just in case you got mixed up with pin1, did you try the cable both ways around?

And seeing as how you're using WinXP, are you logged on as an administrator?

Yes, I've verified shorting pins 1 and 2 using an ohmmeter at the 6 pin connector. I shorted them together by soldering a blob between the connections right at the 6 pin mount. To explain further, my 6 pin is sawn off the end of a larger connector that was mounted 90 degrees to a ,for lack of a better word, ISA card blade connector. Therefore, I have the 6 pin female and out of the back of it come male pins that turn 90 degrees and go through the isa style connector which gives me a solder connection point. Pins 1 and 2 are shorted via a solder blob here.

I did try the cable the other way around but no luck.

I am logged on as an administrator.

OK, I got frustrated and rebuilt a new interface with ribbon cable and a completely different diode and it works great.

OK, thanks for the code 117, that works great.

Regarding the rmdu, I've now installed remote master and have started to sort through it so thanks a bunch.
