Okay, starting with an URC-8910, if I load the regular 8910 RDF, it works as expected.

If I load it this 8910 extender:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1455

Then it doesn't, quite. The buttons seem to have a "delay". The regular RDF sets up buttons that take effect instantly. Using the extender, there's a short delay between the button press, and both the LED lighting and the device responding.

Moreover, if I use this device upgrade (no code works for my dvd player):

If I just press the button for the DVD device, the LED blinks only very rapidly (after the same delay), and the button works only about 50% of the time. If I hold the button for a moment, the LED lights as usual, and the button always works.

From the info you have provided it is almost impossible to diagnose anything. If you upload the guilty IR file in the diagnosis area and post a link to it here, someone can have a look and possibly help you.

From what you have provided, the only thing I can surmise is one or more of the following:

(1) You are using the extender rdf, but have not really (a) installed and/or (b) activated the extender, so it's not working properly;
(2) The device upgrade is not assigned to any device;
(3) The device bubtton macros are some default version that does not so what you intend.

All of this is pure mere speculation.

Have you read the Extender Beginner's FAQ?

Thanks for the effort, sorry I didn't provide better info. Consider the problem solved for now.
I was trying to do too many things at once; I think it's working now, and what problem remains is probably an extra-sensitive IR receiver in the DVD player.

Let me repeat, because I know how much work helping strangers in a forum can be, thank you for trying.
