9910 issues, where should I go from here.

Post by Chriffer »

I picked up a OFA 9910 because it is pretty much perfect for what I am trying to do. It's a home theater with inconsistent sightlines so IR is troublesome. The RF works perfectly and even though my components and projector are pretty well separated the IR blaster hits them all. My troubles comes trying to get all the devices working well.

A JVC DVD player and Sony VCR are no issue at all. The Infocus Projector (SP 5000) has to be learned, but works as well as could be hoped. The last part is a HK AVR 335 which has a mountain of buttons not in the preloaded code for HK recievers. With these two devices not working too well I decided to try and use the IR to WAV features of IR6.

I grabbed an Infocus and HK device upgrade from the files sections. These weren't for the exact models, but close enough to expect them to work. I set these up for the 9910 instead of whatever remote they were for with RemoteMaster. I took this into IR6 and converted them to WAV and tried to play them. I have tried a couple different ways to get these working. I eventually found where the remote's sensor was at and got it positioned well with the junk speakers I was using.

I can consistently get the remote to listen to the whole download, and it will display Complete at the end. I have yet to be able to use any of these devices I have tried to upload. I have tried uploading the full settings and everything else option in IR without any success. I would upload a wav for the projector which was known as VIDACC 1331. After it said complete and all looked well I would enter the code setup in the menu and try to set the TV button to VIDACC 1331 and would get code not found. The same method for the receiver ended up the same way.

I then decided to just forget all the fancy stuff and learn what I needed. I reset the remote from the menu and then learned what I needed. It wasn't perfect, but I would survive. The problem I had is when I went to Home Theater mode where it mixes devices into one layout, the devices I set in the menu wouldn't stick. If I went through and set Audio to RCVR, Channel to TV, Playback to DVD, and the rest the way I wanted them. I would end up with something completely different such as the TV being used for audio control.

Is JP1 the smart way to fix this? Or do I just need to run the WAV files until I get an upload that isn't corrupted?

Seems like a lot of effort to go through to avoid getting a JP1 cable.

I haven't used .wav files enough to make a good guess at what went wrong with your attempt to use them. I'm pretty sure what you want to accomplish could be accomplished with a .wav file. But I think you're already past the point where the effort could be justified vs. the cost of the cable.

It will all be much easier with the cable.

I used the wave files for about 3 or 4 days before I got disgusted with the process and ordered a JP1 cable. Since doing that it has been so much easier, and I now have my remote almost totally customized, and I haven't even gotten to looking at using an extender yet, as it seems to do everything I want without one so far.

So I would certainly suggest that a JP1 cable is the way to go. However something to remember is that you need to get the entire setup you want configured before uploading even with the wave file, and remember that the wave file will remove anything else each time you upload another, so my experience is only doing a full upload worked very well, and with the wave file that takes a long time and everybody kept getting upset.
