Sound pressure meters, equalizers and signal generators

I have a biamped system which I would like to adjust. I have a multimeter, but I don't own a signal generator. I hate Radio Shack, but I won't use the generator that often. What's a decent brand to buy?

When I add more speakers and have a home theater setup, I understand that a sound pressure meter will help me balance the speakers. My preamp processor will generate pink noise. What brand SPM should I purchase?

Finally, I think that I want to adjust the relative output of the highs/mids to the base. One way is with the multimeter and signal generator. I can change the voltages going to the two base speakers versus the highs/mids. But another way would be to introduce an equalizer into the system. Would an equalizer introduce unwanted shifts in the output, whereas the crossover network would simply change the voltage, but not do anything else to the sound.
