I recently got a Sharp LCD TV (LC-37GX1W) with built-in receivers for both the BS and CS digital satellite systems in Japan as well as analog and HD digital terrestrial broadcasts. This model is newly released and I have not been able to find any remote files for it anywhere. Files for other Sharp LCD TVs work for power and channel selection, but not for the more advanced functions such as switching between the BS and CS satellite receivers and the other TV reception.

I tried all of the remote software that would work on my Dell Axim X51V but none of them could export a usable ccf file. I did manage to copy all of the discrete codes from the IR database editor in Remote Control II but I don't know how to convert this information into a format that is useful for making an upgrade file for the Slingbox.

Any help, ideas or useful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here are the discrete codes from Remote Control II:

Download the IRTool program and use it to decode the hex.

That TV obviously uses both the Sharp IR protocol and the Kaseikyo IR protocol.

In the above list, all the signals that should be Sharp protocol seem to be garbage. But I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding these Sharp protocol signals elsewhere. They're quite common and consistent.

I think Sharp has given customers who ask a document with all the Kaseikyo signals described. That might make things easier. But in any case it shouldn't be hard to get or decode a list of the desired Kaseikyo signals.

The problem is how to do anything useful with the combination in a Slingbox.

I don't know what you're trying to do with the Slingbox, and don't know enough about a Slingbox to help you if I did know.

I understand that a Slingbox is not very good at handling combinations such as Sharp and Kaseikyo. If that is really what you're trying to do, ask Rob for a little better answer on what can/can't be done with protocol combos in a Slingbox.

I am also curious what role the Slingbox will play as people don't usually use a Slingbox to control TV sets, the idea being that the remote computer is the "TV set" and the Slingbox is there to control another device, such as a PVR or SAT box.

The current Slingplayer software only allows control of one device at a time. When multi-device support is added (which I understand is in the works), you could create two upgrades, one using the Sharp protocol and another using the Kaseikyo protocol, then you could switch between the two upgrades as needed.

Currently, the only way to combine Sharp and Kaseikyo signals into a single upgrade is to use the "Device Combiner", but due to the size limitation placed on upgrades, this is not possible with the Slingbox.

Your best bet right now would be to create two upgrades, defining one as (let's say) a cable box and another as a DVD player, then program one upgrade to each of the two different inputs. Then to switch between them, you would just switch inputs in the Slingplayer software (eg, you would use the CBL input for the Sharp signals, and the DVD input for the Kaseikyo signals).

Of course Rob understands that the TV really is ONE device. But the current software in the Slingbox can't understand that.

It would need to treat the set of Kaseikyo commands for this TV as if they were a seperate device from the set of Sharp commands for the same TV.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Sorry if my initial post was a bit ambiguous. I want to make remote upgrade files for the Slingbox so I can watch the news, etc., from my office.

This new TV has four separate integrated receivers. One for BS digital satellite, one for CS digital satellite, one for digital terrestrial broadcasts and one for analog terrestrial broadcasts. There are four buttons on the remote to select the desired receiver. I made some upgrade files with RM from some Sharp LCD TV files I found here and also on remotecentral.com and they work for power, the number pad and the channel up/down buttons but I haven't been able to get the receiver selection buttons to work.

I downloaded irtools.exe and will go through the discrete codes and see if I can put together a more complete Slingbox upgrade file with RM.

If I understand you correctly, you want to use the TV as a multiple input channel tuner for the Slingbox.

I assume the TV has some A/V out connection transmitting the same signal that the TV itself is displaying (whatever input is selected and whatever channel tuned).

I further assume that the digits and CH+- functions and anything else involved in selecting a channel are all Sharp protocol signals.

If there are discrete input select signals, those would be Kaseikyo signals and hard to use with the Slingbox (given that the channel select signals are Sharp).

Is there a round-robin function for input select? If so, I'd expect it to be a Sharp protocol signal. You might prefer discrete input select if you could use them. But you may be limited to functions in Sharp protocol.

There is no round-robin selection for the receivers, just the four buttons. I don't know at this point which protocol Sharp uses for those.

The output connections display whatever is showing on the monitor unless there is a recording in progress, in which case the channel being recorded is sent to the outputs. It is possible to watch one channel while another is recording so the TV does not send any displayed information (such as the menu, guide, etc.) to the outputs. If I can just get the receiver selection buttons to work in addition to the power and channel selection functions that are working now that will be enough for remote viewing.

Maybe it would help if you explain that the "Q" commands are for that you listed in the first post, as these are the ones that use the Kaseikyo protocol. If all of your commands use the same Sharp protocol, there's no problem (you just need to find the codes).

The "Q" commands are actually just my shorthand. They appeared in the Remote Control II IR database editor as "QUICK_00012, QUICK_00013, etc.". There are several buttons for digital interactive services and that may be what these are for. None of the interactive screens are sent to the outputs, however, so I won't be able to use these through the Slingbox. Hopefully I can make more sense out of this once I have enough time to run these codes through irtool.

So, do you have the codes for the input selects in any format? Pronto hex or otherwise?

There is an extra nibble of information in Sharp Kaseikyo whose meaning we've never figured out. My private copy of IrTool.exe displays it. The public copy doesn't. It is displayed as "E=" in my copy of IrTool (and in DecodeCCF) and must be input (in the field labeled E=) in KM.

All the samples you just posted, except Bilingual, have E=2. Bilingual has E=1.

IIUC, the Kaseikyo protocol executor used by KM allows only one value for E= per upgrade, so I guess you won't be including Bilingual in an upgrade with other commands.

But I haven't seen any confirmation that the E= value means anything at all. It is possible that it is meaningless so that you could use a different value than the original and have the command work anyway.

With the info you just posted you could build a Slingbox upgrade to generate those Kaseikyo signals, but you couldn't include them in an upgrade with the Sharp channel select signals.

I understand the original remote for your TV has discrete input select buttons, not round robin. But have you tried the round robin input select commands from older Sharp TVs that share the same channel select commands with your TV? Maybe that round robin input select command still works even though the new remote doesn't include it.

Digital broadcasting and the new CS digital satellite band have only gone into service in Japan within the past year, so I think this may be the first generation of remotes from Sharp with these receiver selections. I haven't been able to find any Sharp remote files anywhere that match this remote's layout.

I found a file for Sharp TVs with Kaseikyo protocols and added the above functions but they don't work with the Slingbox. As with all the other Sharp TV files I found only the power, channel up/down and number keys work. Also, any funtion that I map to the menu key fails to work with the Slingbox remote. The menu key is always greyed out.

The rmdu file that I modified is here:

Please post the RM file in the Diagnosis Area and post a link to it here, then delete the file contents from your post.
