JP1 Remotes

I recently purchased an Insignia NS-VDVD1 dvd player from Best Buy. Unfortunately, using the remote also sends signals to my Toshiba 52H83 television. So, for example fast forwarding the DVD player also switches inputs on my TV, making it impossible to use the DVD player.

I use a URC 6131 remote with JP1. So far I have found no remote codes or JP1 files for this DVD player, but I'm not optimistic that even if it did it would eliminate this problem.

Is there anything I can do with JP1, or anything else, to resolve this situation? I hate to have to return the DVD player because of such a freaky occurance.

I'd like to be sure I'm assuming the right code set, so does you TV work (at least partially) with the basic Toshiba TV setup code TV/0156?

If not, what setup code (in the 6131) does work the TV?

The DVD's FF button switches input on the TV. Does the button for switching input on the TV also FF the DVD? I'd like to understand whether they are really the same signals or some more subtle overlap.

Probably the bottom line is there is no way around it and you need a different DVD. But you haven't said enough yet for me to be sure that is the answer. (Even the worse answers to the above questions still leave some things you might want to test via JP1 to get signals to work one device at a time.)

It's very unlikely that you will be able to solve this using JP1 or anything else. Would I be right in guessing that you can use the TV/0156 code to control your TV? If so, that code uses the NEC1 protocol with a device code of 64.

There are several DVD codes that I know of that also use that code (eg, 0779, 0830, 1085, 1935, 1977 and 2016). The only one of those codes that in the URC-6131 is DVD/0830, so you could try that to at least verify if that's the right code for your DVD player.

But ultimately, I think the cheapest and easiest way to resolve the issue would be to exchange the DVD player for another brand.

Ok, I do use code 0156 for my TV.

The television remote does run the VCR. So chapter advance on the DVD remote is 3 on my television. And hitting 3 on my television remote advances the chapter on my DVD.

The code you suggested of DVD 0830 worked on my universal remote, in a sense. It operated just like my TV remote. So when I loaded that code on my URC-6131, hitting 3 on the remote advanced the chapter on the DVD. If that was all, I could just try to remap the keys, but unfortunately it still changes the TV to 3 as well, which is the main problem.

Time for a new DVD player I think.

You could go the RF remote/ addressable basestation way, cheapest being URC/HTM mx-350 and sold separately mrf-250 basestation.

You would setup Tv & dvd player as RF devices only on the remote, assign each a different IR output on the basestation, then tape up IR repeater cables to tv & dvd, so only the commands from the basestation get through.

The Insignia NS-VDVD1 dvd player is $60 at Best Buy, and there are many other DVD players that sell for less. Whereas, the cheapest that I could find the MX-350 was $89 and the MRF-250 was $58 (both prices before shipping), so I think the more economical choice would be to get a new DVD player.

I could sell him a mx-350 cheaper then that. But I don't have mrf250 to sell. Anyways replace the dvd player is best way to go.
