Problem with ofa 6131

Hi, total newbie here, I just acquired a used 6131 and my problem is the set up button. I started programming by pressing device button (one blink). When I press the set button, it will only blink once no matter how long I pressed on the button. I tried other device buttons and it is the same. Is
there a way around this? or did I get a defective remote.

Your help on this will be greatly appreciated by this newbie. TIA :(

Is it by any chance a JP1-enhanced 6131? Check in the battery compartment section to see if there is a JP1 6-pin header installed.

If it is, the previous owner may have installed the extender for the 6131. It will remain installed even after batteries have been removed, and is activated by pressing the power while in PVR mode (the default mode when new batteries are installed). To check this, remove the batteries, press a key, then re-install the batteries. Now press power. If the LED blinks 4 times, the extender is installed and has been activated.

If you don't plan to use JP1, you can do a manufacturer's reset to wipe it clean. If you will be using JP1, I recommend leaving the extender installed and doing all configuration by JP1.

This 6131 has no header installed, just the six holes.

I removed the batteries, pressed a key and when I put back the batteries, the led blink once without me pressing any key. I did it one more time, reove batteried pressed a key, put back the batteries, pressed the set button, only one blink on the led.

Since the set button will only blink once, can the I still do a factory reset?

Yes, I will purchase a JP1 cable and have this modded but right now, i
just want it to work.

The only thing that I can think of is that the batteries might be too weak. Have you checked them?

Batteries are new.

I was playing with this remote, pressing on different buttons. Then I went on to press TV button and set button and wham, i got two blinks. I don,t know what buttons and in what sequence i pressed, but now I can control my
Sony TV.

I guess it is a start, but I can.t do for my Philips Directivo, Denon receiver and Panasonic DVD.

Rob, can I program this remote with a JP1 cable? and will you accept a postal money order for the cable?

now if you can get two blinks, try a reset. The factory default code for the PVR device is 0618, it will control the dtivo.

You need to modify the remote as well as getting a cable. The instructions are here.
As for the cable, you need to seek another source. Rob doesn't sell cables unless you are ALSO buying a remote from him. Read the first post in the first thread of the Marketplace forum.

Hi everybody,

Just got back from vacation and started playing with this remote. I finally got it. After the first blink, I keep on pressing the set up button until I get the two blinks.

I noticed that I cannot turn on the directivo using the pvr nor the cable/sat
device buttons, but the pvr menu button will do it, is this normal for the
URC 6131? and for other remotes like the URC 8910 and the URC 8820?

Why do you expect the PVR or CBL/SAT device buttons to take it out of Standby? Device keys don't send IR signals.

Total newbie here and I thought it would function just like the original remote.
that when you press power, menu will come up.

I have been searching and reading and did not come across anything on this subject. I know i would still need to read some more and the important thing is I'm learning or trying to learn how to use this remote.

Thank you.

Ahh, you aren't pressing the device key, you are pressing the Power key.
Now that is different. You could try programming a keymove from PVR menu to Power. See USING KEYMOVER in the manual, page 14.

The majority of the peanut remotes included with tivo's don't have a power/standby key, so the preset code in OFa remotes don't either. This goes for 6131, 8820, all OFA remotes. There is a advanced code for standby, its 152, or 00152 in newer remotes.

I just did the key move from PVR menu to power. Now this would make it a lot easier to teach the wife how to use this remote.

Thank you everybody for your help.
