Problems getting JP1 to parallel port working - please help

Hi all !
I just found the JP1 information on the web recently and I was quite thrilled since I am using the Radio Shack 15-2117 remote which supports JP1.
I just built a JP1 to parallel port cable from the instructions at www.diygadget.com and I can't get it to work. ir.exe keeps telling me that there is no response from the remote. I tried all the tricks specified in this thread:

I also tried different addresses for my parallel port and I still can't connect to the remote.
Any ideas ?

Given that it's a home-made cable, my best guess is that you made a mistake in making the cable. However, there's insufficient info in your post for anyone to know what mistake you made.
