I'm trying to use the following upgrade:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3162 {deleted}

However, when I open the RMDU with RemoteMaster, I get the following error message:

'No protocol found with name "Polaroid", ID=01 72, and variantName=""'

I'm assuming the creator of this upgrade had to also create a new protocol, as I don't see it listed in protocols.ini. (or the KeymapMaster spreadsheet, for that matter.) How do I take advantage of someone else's custom protocol? Or, should the protocol definition somehow exist in the RMDU itself? Thanks for your help.

That file makes no sense, so just pretend it doesn't exist. Do you have a learning remote?

interesting. yes, i have a learning remote (URC-8910), but my cheap-ass Polaroid portable DVD player didn't come with an original remote.

anyway, my other option is to just use this file with learned commands:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2806

i tried it, and it works. but, i'd rather be cool and have my own device code setup. btw, how does one see replies to posts in the diagnostic area? perhaps this has already been solved.

The Diagnosis Area is a folder in the file section, it's not a place for posts. The posts would be here in the forums if they were anywhere.

When I first looked at the timing data in that file I couldn't understand why IR.exe didn't display it as NEC1 as that's sure what it looked like.

But, once I converted it into binary data, I could see why. They've switched the command and device bytes around, so the first 2 bytes are for the commands, and the next 2 bytes are the fixed data.

Give me a minute or two and I'll try to throw an upgrade together.

I have just had a chance to test the upgrade. I had to tweek it a little but it looks pretty close to the original now.

I just realised that I didn't load the most up to date copy of the protocol into the file (thanks Sliv for spotting it), so I just replaced the file.

While the old file would have worked, the buttons wouldn't repeat properly when held, which they should do with the new file that I just loaded.
