need help with Comcast URC-1057 remote

my 3-in-1 universal (comcast issued) is freakin out on me all of a sudden. it's model urc-1057bg1...all that happens now is the led at the top of the remote flashes repeatedly....I don't know why it's doing this, there is a 6-pin configuration just above the battery location named jp 1.2 that looks like it should have a cap on it like the back of my harddrives....I tried to talk to comcast support and they had only one idea, to turn the batteries backwards for 10 seconds, reversing the polarity, and now they say that I have to get a new remote.....is this my only option? I emailed computime, the manufacturer.....or does anyone else have ideas as to why this is happening? I've tried new batteries, holding down the setup button, and a few other things, but nothing seems to work.....the tv is stuck on mtv and I can't take anymore 'date my mom' and 'my sweet sixteen'

I understand that this isn't really JP1 related, but I was referred to this website in a round-about way and would greatly appreciate ANY help I can get... thanks for your time!

S'alright; this is the non-JP1 section. It sounds as though either one of the buttons is stuck (and you can sometimes have to look very carefully to spot a stuck button) or there is an internal short. Look carefully at the buttons, try any reset codes you can find (Setup-9-8-1 might or might not work for this particular remote), try leaving it for a long period and then fit new batteries, try shaling it vigorously (warning, invalidates warranty) and then debate whether to open it up and have a look yourself or send it back. If it's going to cost you money then consider just getting a JP1-compatible remote from $25 up. The JP1.2 connector that you found just looks like a JP1 connector but it interfaces to a completely different chip and memory type which isn't supported (yet).
