Printer is ok to LPT1
To resolve this I have to run program in "98/ME" environment.

First things first, you are using a very old version of IR, the current version is 6.20. You should always make sure that you are using the current version before you report a problem, to avoid reporting problems that have already been fixed.
Now, have you successfully used IR under XP before? To use IR under XP or 2000 you need to log on as the administrator, is that what you're doing?
followup NT Driver Error message LTP1

Thx for the clarification
I had typed version of IR 6.20 as 602.. I am using version 6.20
Yes my account has administrator right in XP.
Yes, I had successful using IR before when I have 98 OS and also in this system with the same XP (SP1). For a while I had not use the software. During that period, I had updated the OS with MS security updates, Pathces and installed jetico firewall..antiviral was there all the the time except updates.etc..
My guest the problem is how my system setup. BTW.. it is socket A Biostar MB.
Here is something else I found, If I set the compatability to run in the 6.20 as NT, 2000 environment etc..it will has the same message.
If I use "run as" log onto the administrator, it will have the same error meassage even it is set as 98/ME compatable.
I tried to set the device in system hardware to different set up. no effect.
set the bios to use ECP or EPP 1.9 ..the same error meassge come up
I turned off the jetico ..shut down the firewall etc. same message came up if it is not set compatable to 98/ME.
The printer works if plug in.

Maybe MS has plugged whatever loophole that let ALLOWIO access the parallel port. If you can set your XP session to be compatible with 98/ME, is there a problem, or is this just an acedemic question?
If you don't like having XP compatible with 98/ME, I don't know what the answer is.

I just tried with WinXP Pro SP2 with all updates up to 5/9/2006.
IR 6.20 had no problems reading/writing to LPT1 378.
I used Ultra design JP1 cable and RS-2116.
Maybe this is something specific to your setup or SP1a.
