I'm using the Ultra inteferface from filebug.com with my 15-2117.

When I upload to the remote, the LCD screen is painted black.

When it is done, the LCD screen is blank.

I assume somewhere in that process it had performed a reset because
all my settings are usable and I almost always test my settings without
disconnecting the cable.

The red LED at the top of the remote never does anything during an
upload.

From my experience, what wwwoholic described seemed pretty normal
to me.

On the topic of device #s changing from what I had set them to, I find
that happens to me if I set a device #/category that is not known by
the remote. This happens to me occasionally when I pull device code #s
from hifi-remote.com which I thought my remote should have builtin, but
it ends up not having.

It just ignores my setting from the IR upload and seems to use what was
there before or some default, I forget which. The thread got kind of long
so I don't know if this could explain what wwwoholic was seeing or not.

Interesting... there might be something in this. If for some unknown reason recently installed device update is not recognized (interference from processor during update, bad control sum, just plain magic, etc.) then remote will switch that mode to some built-in setup code. I believe I saw something about this behaviour in some of the readme-s or howto-s on this forum or yahoo group. And you are right, this topic definitely got out of hands, considering that my original question was answered in the very first reply. Sorry to bother you guys so much. Confused

A little off topic, but I just wanted to mention that I've never noticed the red led blink on my OFA 8910, but it also "paints the LED black" just after an upload. So I have to assume that it is reseting the remote and the led just doesn't blink. It does blink on any button push that send out a IR signal (it doesn't blink if the button has no function).

In a way this makes sense. As I understand it, the button blinks when an IR signal is begin transmitted. I would be surprised if any IR signal was transmitted during a reset.
