No hard and fast rules other than the setup code must be no greater than 2047.
A "normal" practice is to use a number that somewhat resembles a built-in code - like if you found TV/0250 works your TV, but you built a "better" version of that, tailored, then you might name it TV/1250 - but there is no real requirement or limitation/restriction, other than the one you point out of not wanting to conflict with a built-in code THAT YOU ARE USING.
If you inadvertently use a code that is built-in to your remote, your upgrade will take precedence over it, so if you're not using that built-in code, you don't really care. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first
