Program UR5-8400 to Operate Pioneer DVR 533

Need to program remote that came with my Scientific Atlanta 8000 cable box to operate my new Pioneer DVR 533.
I have Time Warner Cable in New York City, and the remote that came with the SA 8000 is a UR5-8400. The remote was programmed by cable guy at installation to operate the few components in my "system": cable box, TV, CD player.
The remote needs to be programmed to operate the Pio. Finding the 3-digit code is taking some detective work, and I haven't been successful yet. So far I've tried 3 methods recommended by Time Warner:
1) standard Pioneer DVD codes listed for the remote (255, 222, 229). These probably are good for older Pio products, but not the more recent DVR 533.
2) code "172" which is the correct code for the DVR 533, but is not pre-programmed in the remote already, and therefore can't be used.
3) a method for scanning every code pre-programmed in the remote to see which one will operate the Pio. None of them has worked yet, thought I don't know that I've tried every single one.
Is there any way to upgrade the codes within the remote, even thought I believe it is not a JP1 remote? Anyone have any suggestions for how I can make this work?
