new to this, but have been researching and checking the search tab, but not with much success..seems like the viewsat is pretty popular now, but the remote leaves alot to be desired..has any one had success with the above combination..also have alot of sony equipment to add to it..thought it would be easier to buy a couple of remotes and a cable here ..is this possible???kinda felt the 8910 would meet my needs(backlit face is what i am looking for), any help and or suggestions appreciated...thanks

In the File Section you can find two upgrades for the
Viewsat so I assume that that's two people who've had some success. The 8910 has plenty of buttons and red backlighting, JP1 header already in place, good extender and plenty of support on this forum.
The general forum Search tab doesn't seem to reach the File Section but it has its own Search buttion that will search within it.

Short recommendation - Robman will sell you an 8910 (or 9910 which adds an RF extender) with a cable, and he's REALLY good wrt shipping.
Check out the marketplace section sticky posts. (Read the FIRST entry of Rob's "for sale" post - that's where the shopping catalogue is)
And as far as "success" - once you have a learning remote (i.e. a 8910/9910) and using JP1 tools, I can practically GUARANTEE that you will be able to control your Viewsat eventually.

I can hook you up with a URC-8910 for $20 and a cable for $15. Domestic shipping is $4.
