1. Device: Sony TV KDFE42A10
2. Type of device: HDTV
3. Year: 2005
4. JP1 Remote model: 8811
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? TV_0000
10. Learning remote question? ....

I want to add the point button (as in 8.1) to a TV_0000 bound device (Sony TV KDFE42A10). The learned key info is as follows

protocol Sony15
device 151
Sub-device - blank
obc 29
hex cmd B8 or B9
efc 207 or 199

All the other EFC are available in the TV_0000 codes page. Can I do this without creating a new protocol?

I merged your two threads, because the question needed the information from the template and the template lacked a question.

Whe we ask for a template, that doesn't mean the template answers should be alone. It also helps to tell us what you want.

In answer to your question, you do need a new device upgrade (not new protocol).

You can create an upgrade for Sony12/15 protocol with device 151 and make up a setup code number you're not otherwise using. Then use that setup code as the source for a keymove for this signal.

You also might want to review the list of Sony commands at http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_tv.htm#tvd to see if there are other commands you want to use that aren't included in TV/0000

BTW, if you're not using the extender nor short of learned signal memory, you may prefer to just leave (or rebind) the learned signal for point, rather than create an upgrade plus keymove. If it is a decent learn, it will work just as well as a KeyMove.
