1. Device: DSE A2693
2. Type of device: receiver/amp
3. Year:2002-2003?
4. JP1 Remote model:URC-7541
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes. Very unreliable. Almost dead.
7. Checked the file section? Yes. No file.
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes. No file.
9. Partially working setup code? TV/0508 and TV/0481
10. Learning remote question? n/a.

I am trying to get my URC-7541 2k (a non-learning remote) to control a Dick Smith Electronics Dolby Digital Receiver Model A2693. The DSE A2693 is a 5.1 Speaker setup with a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder built into the amp / sub woofer.

By using the search function of the URC-7541 I was able to find a few setup codes that had a few buttons that did something, but I could not find a setup code that would control everything.

Between TV/0508 and TV/0481 I managed to piece together the following EFC's using the NEC1 protocol, device 64.

EFC OBC Hex Function
122 23 17 Center+
246 30 87 Treble+
118 22 97 Woofer+
247 26 a7 vol+
055 10 af Bass+
119 18 b7 Surround+
244 28 c7 Bass-
036 76 cd Surround-
052 12 cf vol-
116 20 d7 Treble-
180 04 df Woofer-
165 64 fd Center-

However I have not been able to find the following functions:
Standby, DSP Mode, Listen Mode, Test, Optical, Coaxial, AUX, Mute, and Bypass. The only function I really need now is "Listen Mode". Then I would not be forever stuck in Dolby Digital mode. I have checked OBC's 0 - 255 to no avail. I have all the Volume functions, but none of the Control functions.

As a side note, I also have a DSE G1608 DVD player, and I tried the DVD remote on the amp. Some of the buttons on the DVD remote controlled volume functions on the amp, but sadly none of the control functions. It just seems strange that if you had a DSE DVD player and a DSE amp, the remote control of one unit would affect the other.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to discover the missing functions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did you ever find that those TV codes worked? Good going.

Anyway, while TV/0508 does use NEC1 device 64, TV/0481 uses NEC1 device 80, so did you try all the EFCs for that setup code, if some of the buttons do something?

If the original remote still works sometimes, you could send it to one of us to capture the codes.

I tried device 80 as well. No luck.

0508 and 0481 were the two codes that gave me the most responses, followed by 0208 and 0176. There were a lot of other codes that had lesser results such as 0044, 0043, 0553, 0563, 0225, 0271, 0235, 0339, 0355, 0364, 0435, 0578, 0610, 0294, 0321, 0035, 0145 and 0186.

I just pressed a lot of buttons.

The remote had one working button for a while, but is dead now as far as I can tell.

Some of these other codes, according to devices.xls, have different device numbers, so I may have to try them as well. I might even relent and buy a learning remote.

I was just hoping there might be a better way of tracking these functions down.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you have any idea what's wrong with the original remote? If it's just worn out buttons, I can fix that. If you have no further use for the OEM remote, send it to me and I'll see if I can fix it and capture the codes.

Thanks Robman, but I borrowed a URC-7562 and managed to capture one of the missing codes (after about 90 minutes   ), problem solved.

Turns out it was using NEC1 device 65.

I found all the codes and created an upgrade.

A2693:

And while I was at it, learned the codes for the DSE G1608 DVD Player.

It was using NEC1 device 64 subdevice 63

G1608

Both upgrades work fine, as far as I can tell.

Again, thank you very much for your help.
