button mapping problem

I am trying to program basic 4-in-1 DirecTV remote...the blue Terk (Korea) to be able to control a 2nd sat receiver...I have tried a few existing upgrades for dish/Expressvu satellite 0775 to use as AUX and also from scratch...BUT...the buttons listed in KM for remote selected (DirecTV v1) do not seem consistent with what's on the remote...AND...more importantly, only some of the buttons perform the expected function, while others do something different and others still, do nothing (and the device light doesn't go on when the function is pressed in those instances...for eg, there are key moves for up,dn,L,R yet UP is the only one that lights up na dit does EXIT instead of UP even though EFc is fine !?!?)...individual tests of all the applicable EFC's are AOK...I have tried all kinds of variations during my analysis to try to put my finger on something, but still a number of issues....is it possible the RDF file is way out of whack for this remote or what exactly indicates to the physical remote which function codes/EFC's map to which hard buttons
First post but I've been using for 3yrs...maybe lost registration or only had been on Yahoo...can't remember...so, not a total newbie by any stretch, but stuck just the same !!
any direction is very welcome...THANKS, Mike

I've had a quick look at both the RDF and KM and both seem to be OK. Are you by any chance changing the device type after you've copied the upgrade over to IR? In other words, did you create the upgrade in KM using "SAT" mode and then change it to "Audio" mode once it was copied to IR.exe? If that's what you did, that would explain why the buttons were messed up.

In addition to Rob's comments above, I would add that in circumstances such as this, it is almost ALWAYS quickest to get to the/a solution by posting the applicable files (IR and RM/KM) in the diagnostics area and linking to them here, as review of those files can
(1) immediately clear up some basic questions such as the one Rob asked above, and
(2) may allow someone to glom on to the problem - whether simple or not - without resorting to an extended back-and-forth interrogation.

thanks....Just saw the sticky regarding diagnostics a short while ago so I was attempting to recreate upgrade with nothing cute in it and then post the files for analysis.
will post them immediately !!
Mike
fyi...had been mucking around with 1775 replacement code but reverted back to 0775 for this time as I know 0775 not in remote list anyway.

here's the links for the 2 files
I really appreciate (again) the assistance you guys provide everyone and the patience you all show as well !!

It looks like a problem with the fixed data in the output of your upgrade. It may be above me as I am in no way an expert. Give
Removed a test to see if it works.
If not you may need Robs attention on this.

thanks for looking at it Whompus.
tried your file with similar results...many function OK, others do the wrong thing and a number of others do nothing (and don't light up the remote device button)...not sure if results were identical or not...very similar at minimum.
aside from the fixed data value, I'm not sure why/how you had different EFC codes than typical 0775 but anyhow, end result is still what it is...
I will try to summarize some of my findings to see if it helps me further, but may have to sit tight and see if anyone else (like Rob) gets an op at all to have a further peek.
thanks again...

I took a look at this earlier to day but didn't find anything, so I didn't post any updates.

Your upgrade has the following settings:
Unit Code: = 0
Device0: = 0
Device1: = 0
Device2: = 0
Device3: = 0
which yields Fixed Data = "00 00 00 00 00"
The default Dishplayer 0775 uses:
Unit Code: = 0
Device0: = 0
Device1: = <blank>
Device2: = <blank>
Device3: = <blank>
and the Fixed Data is "00 00 80 00 00"
Try deleting the Device1, 2, and 3 "0" entries and try the upgrade again.

more than happy to try that (right now) Mark....I had noticed the diffs in derived fixed data value in a few diff variations.
meanwhile, let me ask this though, how am I to interpret DEVICES 4 then for 0775 when it indicates the following:
dishplayer protocol instead of dish network
fixed data 00 00 instead of string you have indicated
no fields at all for unit code or device0
zero for device 1
and nothing for device2 and device3
what are you referencing that enables you to comment differently. I'm not questioning in the least, merely hoping to improve my own troubleshooting efforts for the future and maybe be able to return the favour for another member down the road.
will report back asap once I make amendments !!
Much appreciative of your time and comments...Mike

Mark ofcourse will know way more about it then me. I did just put up a second test same file link above to try if you want. I think I forgot to set remote address in the other one.

At some point we changed the "Dishplayer (Old)" protocol to "Dish Network"
fixed data 00 00 instead of string you have indicated
no fields at all for unit code or device0
zero for device 1
and nothing for device2 and device3
Beats me!

Maybe Rob can say since he developed devices.xls.
what are you referencing that enables you to comment differently.
An "official" 0775 upgrade for the 2104 I have in my library. I can't recall where it came from however.

There's 2 things you should know about devices4.xls, the first is that it's pretty old and the second is that it just reflects how the codes are setup in one particular remote, that being the 15-1994.
UEI changes their executors over time to allow for new variances that occur in the remote world. The $0002 executor has changed alot over time. In the beginning, the SAT/0775 setup code was just created to work the Echostar ExpressVu machines, then the Dish PVRs came along. Their signals were pretty much the same, but they used a different device code for some of the buttons, so the executor was modified to handle this.
moolala wrote:what are you referencing that enables you to comment differently.
He probably loaded one of the Echostar or Dish upgrades into KM to see what settings were used.
All thatbeing said, I din't think your fixed data settings are the cause of your problems because I looked at those earlier.

thanks for the additional comments Mark.
I redid the upgrade with essentially same results again.
(which is consistent with Rob's subsequent remarks I just read prior to posting this)
among other things:
CLEAR performs guide
GUIDE lights up DIRECTV and not AUX (and does nothing)
L,R and DOWN do nothing and no device button lights up for them...UP button performs CLEAR(cancel/exit)....all 4 of these have keymoves (which is already a little curious since this 0775 code is already for a satellite receiver...why aren't they already active buttons ?!?!)
OK (select) does nothing as well.
fyi...for anyone that actually reads this, if I attempt to learn these no result buttons on another remote, I get ERRORS which suggests it is either not transmitting something or certanly nothing legible.
VOL- appears to perform MENU...(and when in GUIDE I believe it performs R arrow, while VOL+ performs L arrow in guide)
PREV CH appears to perform CLEAR as well.
MAJOR BRAIN CRAMP NOW....I will digest some of your additional remarks and try to have a fresh look again later.
frustrating because I'm really not trying to do or add anything special other than fact that 0775 is not presently in this remote's database.
>>> this s the mid-blue MDTV6 remote I am speaking of with made in Korea...I'm using all the right codes aren't I ??
ot: Rob, are you or other experts/admins taking contributions for the site at all or aligned with any charitable organizations...you guys are too bright to be poor so don't imagine anything s coming directly to you, so what can individals do to show any larger appreciation. (just curious...poor too now that I think about it)

I removed my test ir file. Like you said it is doing the same thing as yours was.
You may want to make sure you are working with a correct upgrade file to start with. The file you posted as txt upgrade was the one I was working from.
