Pioneer Plasma PDP-4214HD remote (AXD1522)

by jmcmillon
1. Device: Pioneer PDP-4214HD (remote is labeled axd1522)
2. Type of device: Plasma TV
3. Year: 2005
4. JP1 Remote model: URC-8811
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? Yes TV/0166 Power and Ch+/Ch-
10. Learning remote question? I am able to find all the OBCs for every button, but IR.exe lists two different Device numbers depending on the button pushed. I get either NEC1 device 0 sub-device 134 or I get NEC1 device 170. I have tried to create a KM upgrade using the Pioneer 3DEV protocol using 170 as Device1 and 134 as Device2 and making the appropriate entries on the functions tab under the byte2:dev#.

The device 170 buttons seem to work, but not the 134.

So, my question is what should I put as Device2? How do I translate IR.exe's NEC1 device 0 sub-device 134 to KM?

Thanks in advance for everyones help...

Take a look at the Pioneer MIX protocol. Be sure to view the Protocol Help sheet for details.

How can I tell if I am receiving a "double-style" signal?

As far as I can tell, I am not.

Could you post a copy of your IR file (*) that contains the learned signals please. I am suspicious about the protocol and codes that you've found as these are not standard for Pioneer. I suspect that you haven't downloaded DecodeIR.dll.

Pioneer always uses one of the "Pioneer" protocols (which are similar to NEC) and it never uses sub-device codes.

The TV/0166 setup code uses the "Pioneer" protocol with a device code of 170

(*) Please post the file in the Diagnosis Area and then post a link to it in this thread.

If you see two lines of data in IR.exe where each line has a different device code or OBC, then you have a "double style" signal.

IR file that contains learned signals:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2637

screen shot of KM showing most of the OBCs I came up with:
http://img276.imageshack.us/img276/2850 ... hot8mx.jpg

I checked my file using the latest IR.exe and got the same thing with DecordIR.dll ver 2.14. Let me know what else I can do to help in the trouble shooting effort...

Thanks again...

These do appear to be NEC1 signals, as opposed to Pioneer, which surprises me. However, it's hard to guess what the functions are as you only used the L1-L4 buttons for the learning. It would have been alot easier to follow if you had learned them all to the appropiate buttons on the URC-8811.

This one could be tricky to get programmed just right, so could you attempt to learn all of the buttons from the original remote. But first, reset the 8811's memory usin the 981 command. Then learn the buttons to the matching button on the 8811. When the memory is full, save the file and start again (after another 981 reset). When it's time to learn any goofy buttons (ie, buttons that don't have a matching counterpart on the 8811), learn the functions to any button and then state what the real function name is in the NOTE box at the bottom of IR's learned signals panel.

Wish I had known I could 'learn' buttons to other than L*... oh well.

Here is the IR file for the first part:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2638

and the second:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2639

I was able to get almost all of the original buttons. I got all but some of the picture in picture stuff...

Thanks again for all your help...

I have created various upgrades that you can try, but none of them are tested.

Here is an upgrade that uses the NEC 2Dev Combo protocol...

Upgrade Code 0 = 0F D0 (TV/2000) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
1A 00 FE FE FD FF 9E AA 55 CF 20 3F 20 DF 20 5F
20 9F 20 1F 20 EF 20 6F 20 AF 20 2F 20 AF A0 2F
A0 6D A0 F7 A0 77 A0 C7 A0 57 20 97 20 E7 20 B7
20 8F 20 D7 20 37 20 77 20 87 20 FB 20 3D 20 37
A0 A7 20 A1 20 11 20 91 20
End

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 1A (S3C8+) NEC 2DEV Combo (KM v8.36)
43 8B 42 8B 14 CF 44 08 08 01 18 01 06 01 18 03
39 D2 DC 11 94 08 B6 08 CA E6 10 02 08 08 37 0E
06 E4 05 03 E4 06 04 E4 07 05 E4 07 06 60 06 37
0B 05 E4 03 04 60 04 37 06 05 F6 01 04 7B 09 37

1E E4 23 1F 37 01 EB F6 01 49 E6 28 C1 60 03 E6
12 01 8B E4
End

Alternatively, here is a seperate upgrade for each device code...

Upgrade Code 0 = 07 D1 (TV/2001) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
5A 00 8E FE BD 20 FF 9E CF 3F DF 5F 9F 1F EF 6F
AF 2F 57 97 E7 B7 8F D7 37 77 87 FB 3D A7 A1 11

End

Upgrade Code 0 = 07 D2 (TV/2002) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
5A 00 70 00 41 00 AA AA AF 2F 6D F7 77 C7 37
End

And finally, here's an upgrade using the Device Combiner instead of the Combo protocol as it's a bit smaller...

Upgrade Code 0 = 0F D4 (TV/2004) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
44 00 FE FE FD 00 00 00 CF 00 3F 00 DF 00 5F 00

8F 00 D7 00 37 00 77 00 87 00 FB 00 3D 01 37 00
A7 00 A1 00 11 00 91
End

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 44 (S3C8+) Device Combiner (KM v8.36)
00 00 22 08 06 96 10 04 90 05 6B 03 E4 05 0D 38
04 2C FF E7 62 45 E7 32 44 E3 42 E3 52 1C 03 E3
72 D7 17 1E A2 36 3B F7 97 01 FF 06 D9 02 56 7E
BF C6 CA 01 00 C6 C2 17 32 70 C3 70 C2 C6 DA 10
DB 1F 10 76 47 4C 51 00 5A 20 FF 9E 00 5A 00 AA

End

I have loaded all 4 KM files into the following zip file...

The link to the zip file is incorrect (it points to the files I uploaded). I wasn't able to locate your zipped files in the diagnosis area, so I tried to copy and paste what is posted above. When I copy and paste into IR:
Upgrade Code 0 = 0F D0 (TV/2000) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
1A 00 FE FE FD FF 9E AA 55 CF 20 3F 20 DF 20 5F
20 9F 20 1F 20 EF 20 6F 20 AF 20 2F 20 AF A0 2F
A0 6D A0 F7 A0 77 A0 C7 A0 57 20 97 20 E7 20 B7
20 8F 20 D7 20 37 20 77 20 87 20 FB 20 3D 20 37
A0 A7 20 A1 20 11 20 91 20
End

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 1A (S3C8+) NEC 2DEV Combo (KM v8.36)
43 8B 42 8B 14 CF 44 08 08 01 18 01 06 01 18 03
39 D2 DC 11 94 08 B6 08 CA E6 10 02 08 08 37 0E
06 E4 05 03 E4 06 04 E4 07 05 E4 07 06 60 06 37
0B 05 E4 03 04 60 04 37 06 05 F6 01 04 7B 09 37
09 0C 37 01 03 46 29 0D 46 29 01 8D 01 49 E4 22
1E E4 23 1F 37 01 EB F6 01 49 E6 28 C1 60 03 E6
12 01 8B E4
End
I get "invalid character in input". So I loaded:
Upgrade Code 0 = 0F D0 (TV/2000) Pioneer PDP-4214HD Plasma TV (KM v8.36)
1A 00 FE FE FD FF 9E AA 55 CF 20 3F 20 DF 20 5F
20 9F 20 1F 20 EF 20 6F 20 AF 20 2F 20 AF A0 2F
A0 6D A0 F7 A0 77 A0 C7 A0 57 20 97 20 E7 20 B7
20 8F 20 D7 20 37 20 77 20 87 20 FB 20 3D 20 37
A0 A7 20 A1 20 11 20 91 20

43 8B 42 8B 14 CF 44 08 08 01 18 01 06 01 18 03
39 D2 DC 11 94 08 B6 08 CA E6 10 02 08 08 37 0E
06 E4 05 03 E4 06 04 E4 07 05 E4 07 06 60 06 37
0B 05 E4 03 04 60 04 37 06 05 F6 01 04 7B 09 37
09 0C 37 01 03 46 29 0D 46 29 01 8D 01 49 E4 22
1E E4 23 1F 37 01 EB F6 01 49 E6 28 C1 60 03 E6
12 01 8B E4
End
which causes all of the device code 170 buttons not to work (the LED doesn't even blink, so I think my problem is with leaving out the "Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 1A (S3C8+) NEC 2DEV Combo").

I get similar results when using the combined codes. The separate upgrades seem to work just fine.

So how do I properly copy the NEC 2Dev Combo protocol into IR?

Again, thanks for your help in troubleshooting... and helping a newbie out.

If you tried to copy and paste that whole block, there's the error. Device upgrade code gets pasted into IR's Devices tab while protocol upgrade code goes on the Protocols tab. There's no mechanism in IR to allow both to be pasted at the same time.

Select everything in the device upgrade starting with "Upgrade Device..." and including "End". Paste it into IR-Devices tab.

Then select the protocol upgrade starting with "Upgrade Protocol..." and including the "End". Paste it into IR-Protocols tab.

Sorry about that, I grabbed the wrong link. I have fixed the link in my previous post now.

Also, as it seems like you don't know how to copy upgrades, I have copied all four upgrades into the following IR file that you can load directly into your URC-8811 remote

I now know how to do protocol upgrades.

They all work!!

Thanks again for your help...
