Combining device upgrades into one upgrade (from WAV files)

I'll put this in just in case I should be in code search
1. Device: Teac TV (0892), Panasonic VCR (0162), Panasonic DVD (0490), Panasonic Amp (1533), Sony CD (unknown code) CDP-C545 (old)
2. Type of device: All types!
3. Year: various from very old to brand new
4. JP1 Remote model: URC-7562 B01 chipset
5. JP1 user? JP1 remote but no I have no cable. I wish to use WAV to upgrade
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? no
9. Partially working setup code? yes
10. Learning remote question? not really

This is a long question, I think my remotes broken (doesn't behave like my similar model at home)

Alrighty, I come here from time to time, usually when I change my equipment and need to re-learn how to re-learn my remote as I have forgotten.

Anyway, I personally have a URC-7560 (One For All 6) that has served me well over the years, and so I got one for my parents for Christmas. Theirs is a URC-7562 [B01] (also a One For All 6, but newer, looks the same but theirs is grey and mine is black).

However I have no end of problems so far...

For a start, their remote would not accept any Panasonic VCR or Audio codes (single long flash instead of two flash). I dont understand why not as the codes are straight out of the supplied code book and work on my older remote (with no download, etc). So I did a reset (both 980 and 981) but still those codes wont work. So I download the codes using the WAV files (from the official ezremote site), and found the ones that work. However since I have to download the TV (Teac), VCR (Panasonic), and Amp (Panasonic), (as well as the CD player (Sony) but this comes later) the remote doesn't have enough room for them all (because the downloads include a whole heap of other similar device codes that aren't required) as they add up to about 170% of the remote's memory. So I downloaded IR, KM and RM, as well as IR2Wav. I imported a WAV file into IR and deleted all the unused device codes leaving just the one I wanted, however when I try to import the next WAV file for the next device (even if I select 'Merge with current') it overrides my device(s) and I cant figure a way to compile all the device codes into one upgrade so I can upload it to my remote (via IR2WAV output file). - I have no JP1 cable.

I figure if I could make upgrade txt files from the WAV file (with the extra devices removed) then I could import them into one upgrade, but I can't even figure how to export to an upgrade txt file!

The CD player is not supported with the sony codes available on the official download site, but I think the CDP-C55 upgrade on your files section should work. I have imported this ok into IR as it is an upgrade txt file already.

Also the EFC Advanced codes don't seem to work, for example the TV requires the AV button to shift from AV to TV, but is not assigned by default with the 0892 code. I sat there for ages trying the magic/EFC code to test them all, but none did anything? Note, when I press magic sometimes the light stays on for a second, then entering the digits causes their functions to be transmitted instead of an EFC (ie if I press magic 018 it sends 0, 1, 8 and the channel changes to 8), however if I press the magic button twice first (once lights for 1 sec, 2nd time just flashes while I press it) then the 018 does nothing (so I am assuming it is sending the EFC function which isn't working). It's a concern cos I tried heaps of EFCs on several of the devices and not a single one did anything. I then realised I could try a known EFC from IR, eg EFC 059 is 'Power' on the Teac TV, but this still does nothing?? I haven't tried actually mapping an EFC to a key yet, but will do this later (right now they decided to watch a movie so I can't muck around till they finish).

I have spent the whole day on this so far and am getting really frustrated at what I thought would be a simple task!

I'm staying at my parents place for the next few days, but then I'm going back home and wont have their equipment to test it on after that.

If anyone can help with all or part of my problems let me know, also if you need more info just ask as I probably have omitted important info.

Happy Christmas/New Years!
Matthew

Well, I think you've discovered already that life would be ALOT simpler if you did have a JP1 cable, but that's another story.

To do things your way, here's what you need to do...

1) Import one of the downloaded WAV files using IR.
2) Go to the Devices tab.
3) Click on an upgrade that you wish to keep.
4) Click on the EDIT button.
5) Cut & paste the raw hex code over to Notepad (or any other text editor)
6) Make a note of the device type and setup code (eg, DVD/1234)
7) Repeat this process for any other upgrades that you wish to keep.
8) Go to the Protocols tab and if there are any protocols present, cut & paste them to Notepad also, making a note of their Protocol ids.

9) Import the next WAV file and skip back to step 2.

Then...
1) Start a fresh IR session by clicking File > New and selecting your remote
2) Cut & paste the data from Notepad back over to IR...
3) Go to the Devices Tab and click ADD
4) Paste in the first upgrade from Notepad.
5) Select the appropiate device mode and enter the setup code
6) Click OK.
7) Repeat steps 3 thru 6 for all of the upgrades
8) Go to the Protocols tab and copy over all the protocols.
9) Save the file
10) Use the export to wav function for just the upgrade section to create a new WAV file.

Now, what would the easier way have been?
1) Start a fresh IR session as described above
2) To go to the JP1 file section and download all the upgrade files that you need.
3) Edit them using KM or RM so that they are formatted for your remote.
4) Cut & paste them into the Devices and Protcols tabs of IR
5) Save the file and convert to WAV format.

Doing things this way, you would have all the functions that you need programmed to the buttons of your choice, whereas I'm sure you'll find that by using the official UEI upgrades, you will be missing alot of functions.

OK will give it a go. I started doing this and after uploading the newly made WAV file to the remote nothing works, so I guess I did it wrong. I will try again now I have some step-by-step instructions.

Thanks for taking time out over the holidays for the reply, I really appreciate your help!

Yay! It works. I will learn the few unmapped buttons manually as there will only be 10 or so making it not worth the hassle of searching for advanced EFC codes (which I still cant get working by the way, but no worries, it's 99% there without them).

Once again, a bit thank you for your help!
