Best remote to control 2 Sony SVR-2000's?

Post by jczound »

I purchased 2 Sony SVR-2000's (series 1 TIVO's) off of ebay and didn't realized until they arrived that they didn't include remotes. I also was unaware at the time that Sony didn't use the standard TIVO peanut remotes (which some already control multiple units).

I have spent literally hours on the net and many of those reading the JP1 forum (which has provided me with the best information so far.) I still haven't been able to get a conclusive idea if there is a universal remote that will control SVR-2000's directly out of the box. The best that I can tell is that a modified URC 6131 will do just this.

I ran into a post of someone using a URC 9960, but they didn't mention if it was before or after a JP1 mod. And it seems that most people prefer the units with buttons in this forum.

So, in your (collective all) opinion, what would be my best choice in attacking this issue (controlling 2 SVR2000's with one remote)?

And does anyone know if the 6131 will control the Sony directly out of the box?

Thanks for any information.

Yes the 6131 will control ONE SVR2000 out of the box with code PVR 0636, but not two. The ofa 6820, 8820 or 10820 will, they have preset codes for all 3 remote addresses of the Sony SA tivo. Other codes are PVR 1956, 1957.

If you don't want to modify the URC-6131, which would let you add the codes yourself, you can send it in to have the codes added, but you might not get a URC-6131 back as I believe they have run out of them.
