RCU810

I recently purchased a RCA RCU810 remote from an eBay seller. It came with the manual.

When I purchased it, I only knew about its home-entertainment uses. I didn't realize it was also usable for home automation until I got the device and read the owner's manual.

On page 13 of the manual - it gave the codes to set the remote up. I utilize X10 remotes, so punched that code in.

What I didn't find was how to set the House Code (the letter portion) and I didn't see what buttons turn on/off and dim/brighten. I called both RCA and the 800 listed in the owner's manual, and they seemed shocked and surprised their remote could be used for Home Automation - and said "Wow" when I pointed out Home Automation on page 13. They couldn't help.

I googled RCU810 & Home Automation and found your forum.

Can anyone help me in finding instructions on how to use the remote?

Thanks in advance!

The X10 setup code can only be used with an IR543 IR-to-X10 converter box. The X10 remotes are RF while JP1 remotes use IR. The IR543 takes the IR signal from the JP1 remote and converts it into the X10 powerline commands. The house code is determined by a switch setting on the IR543 itself.

Thanks

Gotcha.

I'll just use the remotes I have - or buy another one like them. They're cheaper than the item you mentioned.

Thanks for your help/advice!

X10 has the IR543 for $22.86. Their remotes seem to start at around $40.

homeautomationnet.com has the IR543 for under $20. It's the lowest price on the net.
