I see, the MacMini is an IR sensor. Most people choose a device that uses the NEC protocol 005A. The URC-8820 has quite a few built-in.
I'm fairly certain the iPod protocol works for the HCS08. |

anyone here know the codes for pairing/unpairing the apple remote? On the original remote you hold down menu and forward to pair and menu and back to unpair.
A related question is, does anyone know how the ipod/mac can distinguish remotes? Are the protocols slightly different?
Thanks for any help!

Thought I'd let everybody know that the keymaster file posted earlier in this thread also works quite well for the "new" Apple iMac universal infrared remote control. I mapped it to my URC-8910 and it works great. The only difference was that I did have to use one learning memory space in order to learn the center select key (gray circle between the arrows, not marked on the remote itself), but that's no big deal. Interestingly enough, it was only one byte off from the play/pause function. In addition, so far I've seen no functional difference between the gray circle/select and the play/pause. |

If you've learned a button that's not included in the upgrade file, could you post a copy of your IR file so we can decode the learned signal and add it to the upgrade file please. _________________ Rob

Sure. Here's the link to the file I uploaded to the diagnosis area:
Diagnosis files (ir and jpg pic of remote) for Apple iMac infrared remote.zip
The zip image has the following files:
Apple iMac infrared remote control pic.jpg
- a picture of the new Apple/iMac remote
URC-8910 AUX learned mappings for Apple iMac infrared remote.ir
- I used ir802 for this.
- learned tab has the full learned codes for the new remote.
- up/down/left/right are self explanatory mappings to the up/down/left/right in the jpg.
- play mapping is for the play/pause button
- select mapping is for the unmarked silver select circle between the up/down/left/right buttons in the jpg.
- I chose menu->guide instead of menu->menu mapping to avoid an extra key mapping due to the way the 8910 handles its menu button.
Regards,
Pat |

That IR file appears to be corrupted, could you check it please. _________________ Rob

The problem is that your IR file has the wrong signature in it, it has the signature of a URC-7550 (ie, EBV0EBV0) rather than a URC-8910 (ie, CPT0CPT0). If this loads OK into IR on your end, you must have played around with the RDFs to make it so, does that ring a bell?
At any rate, if I manually edit the sign before opening the file, it opens just fine. The PLAY and SELECT buttons send two signals. Here's the binary:
01110111 11100001 11010000 11111111 - Up
01110111 11100001 10110000 11111111 - Down
01110111 11100001 00010000 11111111 - Left
01110111 11100001 11100000 11111111 - Right
01110111 11100001 01000000 11111111 - Guide
01110111 11100001 10111010 11111111 - select (part1)
01110111 11100001 00100000 11111111 - select (part2)
01110111 11100001 01111010 11111111 - play (part1)
01110111 11100001 00100000 11111111 - play (part2)
I'll have to re-familiarize myself with the Apple upgrade that I created later to see how these fit in. _________________ Rob

Oh - oops. Yes, you are right. I started using the ir/stuff before the 8910 was in existence, so I hacked things together for it by messing with the RDFs. Sorry about that. |

Were there any mods to the Apple upgrade file as a result of these discussions? Or should I just incorporate the learned signal into my the older apple upgrade? |

Apple protocol:
Code: |
lsb first
00000000 00111111 11112222 22222233
01234567 89012345 67890123 45678901
mmmmdddd dddddddd pkkkkkkk ssssssss
m = mode - E (0111) = normal, 0 = pairing
d = device (0x87E, 0111 11100001)
p = parity of serial and key
k = key
s = serial
Key codes (normal):
1 (1000000) - Menu
2 (0100000) - Play/Pause
3 (1100000) - Right
4 (0010000) - Left
5 (1010000) - Up
6 (0110000) - Down
B (1101000) - Menu + Up
C (0011000) - Menu + Down
Key codes: (pairing)
1 (1000000) - Pair
2 (0100000) - Unpair
|
On a genuine Apple remote, hold Menu + Right to pair, Menu + Left to unpair, Menu + Play to change (increment) the serial number. |

For Apple TV 2, use 110 (not 100) for Device 3 Manual Setting
This started out as a request for help, but I figured it out.
I just picked up an Apple TV 2 (little black box), but the TV 2000 code wasn't working for me. I uploaded an IR file here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=9675
In this .IR file from my 15-2116, I learned the buttons on the TV device.
I put the TV 2000 (changed to CBL 2000 to avoid keymoves) on the CBL device. The learned buttons work fine, but I got nothing on the ones imported from KM.
I just got an IR Widget, and tried looking at the signals in it. I'm not too familiar, but I see similar frequency, "Gap-xxx...?" and device (238.135). But the OBC was different: 110 in the original remote, and 100 with the TV 2000 code. I went back to KM, and saw on the Setup sheet under Manual Settings that Device 3 was 100. Changed that to 110, copied the upgrade code to IR.exe, and it works!
Thanks to everybody here, and especially Tommy Tyler for the cables. |

This is such a minor thing, but if you have time (Rob or anyone else), I'd love to understand this. Rob's KM upgrade (TV/2000), (which I got to work on the new Apple TV 2 by changing the Device 3 from 100 to 110) defines these functions:
Code: |
Functions OBC byte2 5-digit EFC 3-digit EFC b2/ov Hex
Up 010 00055 055 AF
Down 012 00052 052 CF
Left 009 00057 057 6F
Right 006 00182 182 9F
Menu 003 00187 187 3F
Select 005 00184 184 5F
|
It doesn't have a separate Play/Pause button, and Kevin Timmerman's Apple protocol description above doesn't have a separate Select.
Select works almost exactly like Play/Pause, but I've found one exception: If you've used Menu to back out through the menus while audio is playing, Select will drill down through the menus, while Play/Pause will pause the audio. I can live with this -- I've mapped the Select function to Select, Play, and Pause keys on my 15-2116 -- but it would be nice if Play and Pause actually sent the Play/Pause signal.
I'll try some of the OBCs in between the ones in Rob's KM file, to see if any of them are interpreted as Play/Pause, but I'd appreciate it if someone more clueful could tell me what it should be, based on what's posted above. I believe I've got the correct keys learned onto the TV device in the IR dump I uploaded last night, if that helps. |

I'm impressed that you figured out that you needed to change the 3rd device code, what was your clue, was it the 110 that shows up as the OBC in IR?
Here's what your learns look like: Code: | 01110111 11100001 01010000 01110110 Up
01110111 11100001 10010000 01110110 Left
01110111 11100001 00110000 01110110 Down
01110111 11100001 01100000 01110110 Right
01110111 11100001 11000000 01110110 Menu
01110111 11100001 00111010 01110110 Select (part1) = 92
01110111 11100001 10100000 01110110 Select (part2) = 5
01110111 11100001 11111010 01110110 Play (part1) = 95
01110111 11100001 10100000 01110110 Play (part2) = 5 | As you can see, the SELECT and PLAY buttons really send 2 signals, were the 2nd part is the standard SELECT code. So, if you were to create 2 new buttons using OBCs 92 and 95 and then press one of them before pressing SELECT, you should be able to simulate the original SELECT and PLAY functions. _________________ Rob

Pretty much. I actually used IRScope, and compared the original remote, which showed 110 as the OBC, with the TV/2000 code, which showed 100. I could have done the same in IR, but would have needed to use a second remote, so one was learning while the other played back TV/2000. It probably would have taken me longer to notice, without the instant feedback from IRScope as I switched between the remotes.

Thanks, I'll give that a try! Ideally, I'd want that as a macro, but I have to brush up on how to do that with the 2116 Extender 2. I seem to recall something about device-specific macros, which I guess I'd need, since Play and Pause do other things in TiVo mode, DVD mode, etc. |
