1. Device: JVC XV-N410
2. Type of device: DVD player
3. Year: 2004
4. JP1 Remote model: 15-2116
5. JP1 user? yes
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? yes. Found this one
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... ile_id=228 by Rob but the discrete on/off's don't work for me.
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes. Found same codes as in #7 above and they don't work.
9. Partially working setup code? yes. JVC 0558 - everything seems to work except the discrete on/off's
10. Learning remote question? discrete on/off functions are not on original remote
Has anyone found discrete on/off codes that will work with JVC DVD players? I'm not having any luck at all.

If the standard JVC discrete codes don't work, then you're probably SOL. Have you tried looking for workarounds? For example, does the PLAY button turn the unit on? If so, how about this...
1) Discrete ON macro...
DVD, PLAY, STOP
2) Discrete OFF macro...
DVD, PLAY, POWER

Well, you seem to have done all of the right homework. Your only options at this point are:
(1) conduct a manual code search: Look at your JVC upgrade(s), see what OBCs are unuseed, and try them to see if you can find discrete ON and OFF codes. Although I believe that JVC has been pretty consistent with its discretes, it can't hurt to try;
(2) try some of the standard workarounds. Does "Play" turn your player on? Then, "Play-Stop" is a discrete ON, and "Play-Power" is a discrete OFF;
(3) install the ToadTog special protocol and create simulated discrete functions.
Good luck.

Sweet! I was just about to the point that I was going to have to learn the ToadTog thing but the Play-Stop & Play-Power functions do the trick.
Thanks guys! Once again, you've been a huge help.

I have a JVC XV-N33 DVD player and have done a manual code search for unused OBCs. There doesn't appear to be discrete power codes for this series player. I am also using the workaround that Rob described.

I went through all codes on my JVC DVD XV-S502SL and didn't find discrete power commands. And those listed in the Advanced Codes section also didn't work.
BTW, if you like the effect of the tray popping in and out, that, too, can be used for discrete On. But the bottom line is a likely ToadTog solution if your remote has it. And if you do go into extender, there is another issue to consider - at least this DVD needs to use the JVC protocol with longer duration for functions that will run from macros, power, play, stop being the key ones.

Yeah, I think your right, but I don't understand why the discretes don't work on their DVD player. My TV and VCR are both JVC units and the same EFC codes, 248-on & 247-off, work on both of those
Oh well, the Play-Stop/Play-Power combo will work just the same.
