|
|
Hi all.
I have IR 5.11 and RM 1.04. I have "stuff" set up but need to change my two 15-2117 remotes to now control two new Plasma TV's. Should I just do it, or should I update the software to IR 6.15 and RM 1.36 (with maps and rdf's) first?
Will anything break?

That really depends upon your stuff. One attitude is "if it ain't broke..." but why not update to a new set of directories and see if you like the changes? So long as you have a working backup IR file you can break as much as you want. |

You should definitely upgrade. While it might look pretty much the same on the outside, IR was completely re-written for version 6.xx. It handles notes, etc much better now.
I haven't kept track of all of the changes in RM, but your version is very old, so I'd definitely upgrade that also. _________________ Rob

OK, so I upgraded. Seems as though all is OK. I do notice that there is an ext 3 for the 2117 now. Not sure what was added but even if I chose it, I would have to add the upgrades for rptv, etc all over again.
One question, however. I added the DCT6412 and added some keys. All is OK. Next I need to add the new Plasma TV's (Hitachi) and I believe I have their files. But, I wonder if I can have the ASPECT "punch thru" on the 6412...and any device like my RPTV so no matter what the source, the ASPECT of the TV can be controlled by the button...like VOL punchthru? _________________ "It it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is" |

That would require a keymove in each device mode. _________________ Rob

With the extender, it's easier to do that as a macro (probably plus one keymove) than as one keymove per mode.
The key extender feature needed is the temporary change of device mode. |

True, I was forgetting about that feature. _________________ Rob

Well, I am setup now as a 2117 Ext2. I just wondered if going to ext3 would make a difference. My main concern now is seeing how to make the TV's ASPECT button available for the Replaytv (VCR) and DCT 6412(CBL).
Anyway, I am going to load the Hitachi UltraVision RPTV to see if the Direct Inputs, etc work. I think it is 1145 but it says it is for a 2117 ext3. Since mine is still Ext 2 I will see what happens. _________________ "It it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is" |

An upgrade is an upgrade, it doesn't matter what remote the original user had as you can change it to your remote. The fact that you know he used ext3 tends to tell me that this is an RM upgrade. The only reason that that fact crept into the upgrade is because RM uses RDFs to get the remote information, and each extender has it's own unique RDF.
If the original user had used KM to create the upgrade, he would simply have selected the 15-2116/2117 remote and you would be none the wiser as to which extender he was using. My point is just that it's irrelevant.
As to the ASPECT question, what you need to do is program a global macro to the button of your choice that temporarily selects the TV device mode, sends the ASPECT command, then restores the device mode back to what it was in the first place. The documentation with your extender should explain how to do that. _________________ Rob

Thanks Rob. Yup, always used RM...I like it and also I do not have Office on this system, but StarOffice!
I do need to play with the Macros now as they mean nothing to the new Set. OH, I checked and Video2 and Video 3 work great...Direct. I would like to find Power on and Off for the 6412 now, but have not looked.
P.S. I do have the Ext 2 readme and stuff but never have found the ext 3 stuff. I guess I can look there as well.
I was going to "ditch" these 2117's and get a Harmony 676, but after a few quick JP1 moves, why should I?
They still do a great job on my 50x0 RPTV's! _________________ "It it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is" |

OK, got 2116 ext3 will read it now. Looks like extinstall WILL let me install the new ext3 and input my old ext2 settings. Still, need to see what ext3 buys me. So far it looks like I can use the light button, but I don't see anything else over EXT 2. _________________ "It it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is" |
