|
|
Hello,
This is a beta 8780/8800/9800 extender. It removes the 50 byte upgrade lmiit (I think). It needs to be tested! To test it download the v2 extender from Yahoo here and follow the instructions, except substitute the protocol below for the one in the instructions. It loads for me, controls my devices, and handles keymoves and macros. So it's not too rougn around the edges.
But there are some quirks. Sleep functionality is gone. When you load the extender it will automatically run the first macro in your remote. Device selection must be done with the Virtual_ commands (like Virtual_TV). So at a minimum you must have a macro on each device button that has the corresponding Virtual_ command. (Of course you can have more complicated macros on your device buttons, just make sure you change the device somewhere in there).
I think that's it, but I had to squeeze pretty hard to everything to fit. Please try it out (especially with devices bigger than 50 bytes!) and let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jason M.

Out of curiosity, what is the 50-byte upgrade limit. When would I most
likely encounter it? Thanks. |

If you create an upgrade with a two byte protocol and 25 button assignments or more.

I updated the RDF to be compliant with RM and will include it in the next release. _________________ Nils

IIRC it is only found in a few remotes with the 740 processor. _________________ -Jon |

Actually, it's found in all of the remotes with the 740 processor as far as we know. |

Okay, now that I've had time to test my creation, I found a bug. So I guess it's good that no one tested the earlier extender. But as I don't have any two byte devices that I use, I still need help with this. Here's the new version. I can confirm that it does handle greater than 50 byte devices, but I can't confirm that it doesn't crash all the time, corrupt your settings, make your remote explode, etc.
By the way, once people can confirm that this extender is stable, I'll use it as a basis to update the other 740 extenders so they too can overcome the 50 byte limit.

Hey Jason,
Even if you don't have any 2-byte devices, you can always use the NEC Combo protocol and just put one device in it, if you have at least one device that uses the NEC protocol.
Just a thought. _________________ Rob

I tried to load the 9800 v2.0a into the IR but it comes back with invalid character in input. Im using IR 3.22 beta software. Can you confirm this works? |

You have to paste Jasons protocol above in the protocols tab of IR, not in the devices tab.

|
|
Tried loading the upgrade protocol above, however, it rendered my P8 (URC 8800) useless.
I loaded the P8 (URC 8800) extender from the Yahoo JP1 site (.txt file is dated 5-26-03) and the remote works well (with new features added) except for one issue. I can't get the backlight to turn on or toggle.
I (think I) followed the instructions in the divergent features note, but every new feature works well except for the light. Not sure if I programmed the light macro correctly, do the { } brackets indicate shift or...?
Any advice is appreciated.

Could you explain what happened in a little more detail?

All that you need for light toggling to work is to have the LightToggle "key" in a macro that is bound to the Light key. LightOn and LightOff are intended for use in macros (I turn the backlight on at the beginning of any macro and turn it off at the end). If you have trouble with this and your backlight works fine in unextended mode, post your saved file from IR in the yahoo diagnosis area and I'll take a look. |

I loaded the extender upgrade protocol from your 11-19-2003 post and my P8 was useless, buttons not responding, LCD stuck in one mode...
Loaded your extender upgrade protocol from the Yahoo site (.txt file dated 5-26-03) and everything worked great (creating macros on device keys...), however, I ran into the light issue. I think my problem might be in my macro as the backlight works fine in unextended mode. I'll post my extended protocol in the Yahoo diagnosis area.
Bear with me as I just got into JP1 programming a few weeks ago and am a real newbie on bound keys, extenders...
I really appreciate your help !!!

Sorry, forgot to mention the IR file name for my P8 backlight issue I posted at the Yahoo diagnostic site:

This is an RDF problem (the code for LightToggle changed between extender versions). You need to remove the HUD0HUD0 RDF that is currently in the same directory as IR (you can just move it to another directory). Replace it with the RDF that comes with the extender. Reload your saved IR file. Ignore the checksum error. Now your macro will show the {light} macro having Key66 as it's only entry. Delete Key66 and replace it with LightToggle and everything should work fine. |
