I'm having some problems getting my Atlas 5 PVR remote (which I got from Time Warner accompanying my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD Cable Box / PVR) to control a DVD player I just purchased (SONY DVP-NS575P)

Based on other threads, I double-checked that the notations near the JP-1 pins do say JP-1, not JP-1.1.

I used RM and loaded up the "Sony DVP-NS355 and DVP-NS585P" device upgrade from here. I first used IR to upload that device to a modified URC-6131 which worked beautifully. The 6131 controls the new DVD player just like I hoped it would.

I then changed the remote in RM from the URC-6131 to the Altas using this RDF: SA_7SA_7 (Atlas DVR-PVR 5-Device).rdf

The auto-layout for the keys on this remote looked fine, so I copied the output to IR and uploaded to the Atlas. Unfortunately, the Atlas is not controlling the DVD player. :-( In fact, when I press DVD on the remote, then press a key like PLAY, the DVD button doesn't even light up like it does when I'm controlling other devices.

If I Download From Remote using IR, the device is definitely there. Another symptom is that I can no longer assign the published Sony DVD device code using the remote: (DVD, Hold Set for 5 seconds, 0533) blinks once instead of twice.

Is there anything I can do to debug this further?

Keep in mind I'm barely treading water in JP1. I think the RDF is OK since you can u/l to IR fine. No guarantee but usually there's some kind of error/warning if it's wrong. The problem with published code and blinks may be resolved with a 981 reset (junk in the eeprom). To further clean the eeprom, in IR you can write all FF's and then do the 981. Right after this you should be able to input your published codes. Don't forget to make sure you put in your setup code of 2005 as the newer IR's do not force you like the older versions did. I suppose one of these days I'm going to ask why newer IR's do that.

Not sure what you're getting at there Max. If you're reminding him to assign his new setup code to a physical device button, that's good advice and it's always been good advice as IR has never forced you to assign your upgrades to a device button, unless the upgrade includes keymoves, in which case IR needs to know the device button so it knows where to put the keymoves.

First of all, thanks to whoever cleaned up my post and gave it its own thread (Rob?).

Secondly, I tried the 981 reset and the Atlas remote seems to be back to a healthy initial state. I'll have another go at uploading the upgrade tonight. I wonder if I used the older version of the Atlas 5 RDF the first time by mistake...

Darn. After the 981 reset on the Atlas I uploaded the device upgrade again, and now when I set the DVD button on the remote to 0533 it works (double-blink) but when I try to set it to 2005 I get the single blink.

Again, if I download from remote the 2005 device is definitely there.

Do I need a protocol upgrade or something?

In most cases it's user error, so your best bet is to post a copy of your IR file into the Diagnosis area (then post a link to it) so we can verify that everything looks OK.

It's also possible that you need a protocol upgrade for this remote (if that is the case, then the RDF must be incorrect). If you want to give it a try, use this...

Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 27 (S3C80) Sony Combo (12/15/20) (RM v1.26)
3a 8a 42 8b 15 f8 15 05 07 02 58 01 18 01 2c 01
18 57 d0 04 b0 01 18 08 03 08 76 07 01 eb 17 76
08 01 6b 0f e6 28 f9 e6 12 08 08 08 e0 c0 56 c0
03 09 01 e6 24 05 8d 01 49
End

I just took a look at this upgrade and I notice that almost all of the functions use the Sony20 protocol with a device code of 26.73, the only exceptions are the "Zoom" and "Instant Advance" buttons. So, if you don't need either of these buttons in your upgrade, you can convert the upgrade to use the standard Sony20 protocol.

To do that, go to the Setup sheet and select Sony20 as the protocol, then enter 26 as the main device and 73 as the sub-device.

Thanks for the help so far...

Ok, I tried converting the upgrade to use Sony20 per Rob's suggestion, but I'm seeing the same results. I do a 981 reset, then assign the DVD button to 0533 (as a sanity check.) This works.

Then, I upload a device upgrade. If I assign the new number (2005) to the DVD button, I get a double blink, but the remote doesn't control the DVD player. If I try to reset the DVD button to 0533, I get a single blink failure.

I've put my IR file in the Diagnosis area as suggested, here
