cable connection

Post by prorange47 »

Is there a Pin #1 indicator on the cable's 6 pin connector? (like that little V cut into one side? Most importantly if I guess wrong can I damage my remote?

I bought a 6131M for it's TIVO ability and JP1 cable a couple of years ago. Once I understood the 6131 I was able to accomplish what I wanted without JP1. Now I want to try JP1. A search of this site and Yahoo showed me the likely #1 pin on the remote's connector. And a schematic showing the #25 pin connected to the 3 pin. I can make an educated guess without disassembling the cable since the wire is flat, or I can disassemble the cable. I do not remember the company I bought from, but I recall Rob saying that although I did not buy it from him, he modded all the units FOR that company.

The cable will typically flow away from the remote, rather than back over the remote, so use that as your guide to connecting it. However, it won't do any harm if you connect it the wrong way around, so if it doesn't work when you first connect it, reverse it and try again.

You are correct in assuming that the "V" (the bevel on the corner of the rectangle printed around the pins) indicates pin1 location.

The simplerev5 doc at http://www.hifi-remote.com/files/interfaces/ shows very clearly how the pins are marked.
