JP1 Remotes

First let me say that this forum has been GREAT and I've learned a lot by just reading (so far). I'm in debt to all those who have spent so much time developing these tools for us to use. THANK YOU!

Now, my problem. When I use IR.exe, it works fine. But if I close it and try to use it again, I get an error message saying "Unable to initialize drivers for any jp1 interface. Drivers for at least one interface must be able to load in order for IR to communicate with your remote." Also, "This instance of IR is unable to control the parallel/serial port....."

So, it appears as though, somewhere, there is a remnant of IR.exe still running. I found a subject somewhere about deleting "gwiopm" from the registry, which I tried, but that didn't work. If I restart my PC, I can run IR again the first time with no problems. But if I close it, it will happen again. Restarting the PC seems the only solution, which is a pain.

Windows XP also keeps giving me the Found New Hardware Wizard with "gwiopm" since I started using IR. Any thoughts?

Please state what version of IR.exe you are using and what type of cable.

I'm using IR ver. 6 and I WILL BE using a Hovis standard cable.

You see, I'm still awaiting the arrival of my cable. I've been learning IR by simply starting the program and navigating around (no uploading or downloading because I have no interface yet). Could it be that IR doesn't detect any interface? I just tried unchecking "Auto check" and that didn't make any difference.

I can certainly wait until my cable arrives to see if that changes things, but I wanted to make sure I had all the bugs worked out prior to my first connection.

Are you logged onto WinXP with admin rights? My guess is that you are not, which explains the "drivers" pop-up. I get that same pop-up whener I run IR.exe at work to look at files.

Yes, I am logged in with admin rights.

I think you will get that message when no cable is attached. I have IR6.0 on two computers, one with the simple parallel cable attached and the other without any cable. I get that same message on the computer without a cable and no message on the computer with the cable (no remote) attached. I'm running Win 2000 on both computers with admin rights.

Well, this problem persists even with the interface (and even the remote) connected. I haven't had a problem uploading and downloading from my remote, but if I close IR and try to restart it, I get the error message. The only solution seems to be to restart the PC which always solves the problem.
