I have used IR.exe in the past and am now setting up a new home theatre and of course I just had to build a new PC and run XP64. I am getting the strangest error.

Unable to initialize drivers for any JP1 device.

Parallel/Serial error
Problem with NT prot driver
Starttdriver: Unable to start service
THis driver has been blocked form loading. Please make sure you have Admin rights

I am logged on as the administrator. I might have to resurect my win98 machine to get my HT pro going.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks Jules

You make it sound like you think updating DecodeIr has something to do with the "Privileged instruction". Maybe it does, but nothing you said makes that seem likely. I think it's still just IR.EXE

To be certain whether DecodeIr.dll is a factor, you can remove it entirely. IR.EXE can run just fine without it and just won't decode learned signals correctly.

I assume IR.EXE will still fail. I don't know anything one way or the other about IR.EXE compatibility with XP64, but it sounds like the driver used to remove printer port protection isn't working.

Solution to Privileged instruction???

Was there a solution to this? I am having the identical problem. Running Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit version. Using IR version 7.11. When I try to set the parallel port HEX address to 3BC (device manager says LPT3) I get the privileged instruction error. When I tried to download from the remote or check interface I get the same error. I am trying to use a simple interface parallel cable. I purchased a parallel card to add to my new PC as it did not come with one on board.

I am logged on as an administrator and I have tried right clicking on ir.exe and selecting run as administrator with no luck.

Thanks for the help.

Anybody?
