Controlling Telewest cable box with red eye

I am trying to control a Telewest Explorer 4000DVB (Scientific Atlanta) STB using a red eye code translator that converts RC6 to the IRDA like protocol that the STB uses.
It is possible to force the red eye into "teach mode" whereby I can learn the codes on my OFA 7560. This would enable the beginners instructions for remote Master to be followed, however the process for getting the codes out of the red eye looks complicated.
There is a full code listing on the red eye site http://www.redremote.co.uk/dtxcodes.txt but I am struggling to see how to use them.
I have tried typing the last two characters into the hex column of the functions screen in RM and copying this device into IR and then into the remote with no joy.
I think the answer is I have to bite the bullet and try and learn the codes from the red eye but I thought it was worth asking here first.
Any help much appreciated.[/url]
