Is it true that if you have a 4 battery remote like the 8810w that has new batteries, and when you try do download from the remote, you get that "no response from interface" error? The thing is, I have that problem and don't have any other used batteries. I noticed that when I unplugged the JP1 cable, the led on the remote blinks twice. I think I found a way around my problem... If I hold down any button on the remote, then plug in the JP1 cable, and that LED stays lit, SUCCESS!! I am now able to get IR to communicate with the remote. If the LED goes out when I plug in the JP1 cable, I get that same error mentioned above. Anyone know anything about this?

Try it with no batteries at all.

...or with one of the batteries reversed (simulating "weak" batteries)

That's strange... I remember reading about those 2 things you can do with a 4 battery remote. But it never worked for me. But now, for some reason, both of those 2 things you can do actually work. Now it also works more than it used to with the 4 batteries in their normal placement. Maybe my batteries aren't so fresh anymore, because I tried to drain them by either holding a button down for a few minutes or by keeping the back-light activated.
