Bought a Kameleon 2133 and need help - have used JP1 before

Post by palmierip1 »

Hello all. Love the site, since it did help me tremendously with my last Radio Shack remote. However I just bought the Kameleon 2133 and had some questions. I know that there are no pins and I need a Pogo thing. So my first question is, can I use my JP1 cable (the one I have for my 1994) and somehow connect the pogo adapter to it? If so, would I have to splice off the end and connect the pogo and then reattach it when I want to work on my other remote? Just looking to save a few dollars if I don;t have to buy another cable.

Second, I have read about this whole .WAV file thing. I know I can upgrade codes through the phone from Radio Shack, but would I actually be able to program macros, learned keys, etc. through it as well? If someone could let me know and post a link on how to do that, it would be great.

And finally. I have input a macro into the Kameleon, however part of the macro needs a long key press to function, which the Kameleon does not support. I think I need the "extender" for this, am I correct? Once again, could I do the extender through the .wav file of do I need the cable.

I know there are a lot of questions here, but if someone could help me, that would be great. I'm not sure if I am going to keep the remote if it doesn't do what I want, but for $35 it seemed like a good deal. All help is appreciated.

Yes. That's how the pogo adapter is used.

No. The pogo adapter just plugs into the end of the JP1 cable.

You can upload anything to the remote via .wav that you can upload via JP1. You can't download from the remove via .wav (so you can't backup or decode learned signals).

Once the ir2wav software is installed and you tell IR.EXE where it is, you can use the "export to wav" command on IR's file menu to export part or all of an eeprom image to the upgrade.wav file in ir2wav's directory.

Most extenders don't include anything to make extended duration (long key press) easier. The easiest way to get an extended duration signal is using an upgrade with the device combiner protocol. The extender might help in giving you enough macro and KeyMove memory to make good use of that upgrade.

You can install an extender via .wav file. Since the extender spans multiple sections of the eeprom image, you would need to select the export option that puts the entire eeprom image in the .wav file.

Thanks johnsfine, but can you expand a little on this last part. Most everything I currently need has been learned into the remote, except for this long press. I want to set up a macro that allows me to switch the AUX (Magnavox home theater) input to DVD while doing other steps, but this is the button I need the long key press for. I did not quite understand the "The easiest way to get an extended duration signal is using an upgrade with the device combiner protocol. " I've never used an upgrade before, so I guess that'w why I am a little confused.

What did you use the JP1 cable for with the 15-1994?

The basics of making an upgrade are discussed in many JP1 help files and many threads here. Using device combiner for extending signal duration is also discussed. I don't have any of those URLs handy. I'm sure a few simple forum searches would find all that info or maybe some other expert will jump in here.

Basically, I used it for learning codes, key moves, macros. I just put them into IR and uploaded them. Seems that with the upgrades there is a lot more that is possible. I'll search on the board to get some more info. THanks.
